Alex Churovich

Alex R. "Sonny" Churovich, 86, of Collinsville, Ill., born Aug. 15, 1924, in Staunton, Ill., died at 7:47 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at his residence.

Mr. Churovich was a retired acting director of management information system for the U.S. Government. He was a member of Moose Lodge, Belleville and Swansea, Ill., AARP, National Active and Retired Federal Employee, Collinsville, Glen Carbon and Granite City Senior Citizens, OSO Naval Lodge 1282, Corpus Christi, Texas, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Houston, Texas, Ainad Shriners, East St. Louis, Ill., and Tri City Shrine Club. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe N. and Johanna, nee Makler, Churovich; and a brother, George Churovich.

Surviving are his wife, Ida "Fay", nee West, Churovich whom he married on July 30, 1963, in Corpus Christi, Texas; brothers, Melvin (Ruth) Churovich of St. Louis, Mo., and Danial (Carol) Churovich of Granite City, Ill.; and sister-in-law, Chris Churovich of Ferguson, Mo.

Memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital or the Humane Society.

Visitation: Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at Herbert A. Kassly Funeral Home, Collinsville, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at Herbert A. Kassly Funeral Home, Collinsville, Ill., with Pastor Randy Wilken officiating. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery, Granite City, Ill.
