Carl Bloomquist

Carl J. Bloomquist, 63, of Maryville, Ill., born Aug. 8, 1947, in Highland, Ill., died at 7:53 p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2011, at his residence.

Mr. Bloomquist was an optometry technician for Belleville Optometrist, Ltd. He was a Vietnam US Navy veteran and had retired from the US Air Force. He was a member of the Maryville Volunteer Fire Department, Maryville Moose and VFW Post 976, Troy, Ill.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife, LaDonna M., nee Archer, Bloomquist, whom he married on July 17, 1970, at St. John Evangelist United Church of Christ in Collinsville, Ill., and who died on March 10, 2004; parents, Carl M. and Evelyn, nee Doctor, Bloomquist; two brothers and a sister, Dennis Bloomquist, Robert Underwood and Darlene Lakin.

Surviving are his children, Joseph Bloomquist of Maryville, Ill., Steven (Heather) Bloomquist of Troy, Ill., and Andrea (Dave Petty) Bloomquist of Collinsville, Ill.; grandchildren, Seth, Nancy, Curt, Aaron and Jonathan Bloomquist, Madeline, Lillian and Jack Petty, and Marissa Eversman; and a brother Kenneth Bloomquist of Maryville, Ill.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Herbert A. Kassly Funeral Home in Collinsville, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at the funeral home with the Rev. Tim Lawson officiating. Interment in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
