Carl Ropos

Carl F. Ropos, 93, of Belleville, Ill., born April 30, 1920, in McKees Rocks, Pa., passed away Friday, April 11, 2014, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Ill.

Carl served in the U.S. Army Military Police from 1944 to 1945 serving at Fort McCoy, Wis. He worked in Belleville, Ill., as a seam fitter and welder for the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 101 for 60 years. He enjoyed fixing things around the house and doing odd jobs. He was a regular handyman. He also attended St. Teresa Catholic Church in Belleville, Ill.

He was proceeded in death by his wife, Catherine, nee Kutris, Ropos, whom he married on Oct. 26, 1936, in McKees Rocks, Pa., and who passed away Jan. 9, 2002; parents, Michael and Mary Ropos; a son, Carl Jr. "Sonny" Ropos; four brothers, Albert, Michael, Michael Jr., and William Ropos; and four sisters, Sicilia Herpest, Mary Sherman, Anna Bailey, and Theresa Jackel.

Surviving are his sister, Helen Morgus of Hudson, Fla.; two daughters, Gloria J. Lang of Oakdale, Ill., and Carol S. Bell of Belleville, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2014, at Valhalla-Gaerdner-Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Belleville, Ill. Interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.

THANK YOU - FOR YOUR SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY.
You are one of our heroes.
We will remember you always and miss you dearly.
Take your Warrior's rest for a duty well done.

I wish to extend to members of your family my deepest sympathy on their loss. May the force of GOD be with them as they walk through this difficult time. May the loving promises of our LORD and Savior comfort them and give them strength.
