Donald Seifried Sr.
Donald R. Seifried, Sr., 73, of Highland, Ill., born Feb. 8, 1934, in Highland, Ill., died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, at Saint Luke's Hospital-West in Chesterfield, Mo.
Born and reared in Highland; graduated Highland High School in 1952; worked as shoe cutter for Moulton Bartley; then at Journal Printing until it stopped printing the Highland Journal; worked at St. Louis Post Dispatch over 21 years retiring at age 50 in 1984. Worked at Wicks Aircraft for several years. Helped his wife operate Rosemary's Fabric & Quilts in Highland.
Founder of Highland Hornet Model Airplane Club; Founded and operated for 20 years the Helvetia Flea Market; compiled and printed "Highland In Focus" in 1987 (Editor and Publisher). For 10 years ran, with his son, an Antique and Hot Rod Car Show in Highland "Highland VFW Car Show". He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time at their club house. He also enjoyed researching Highland and his family history. He was also very active with the Power Show for the Highland Historical Society. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. He was also a member of Printer Union, St. Louis, Mo.; Highland Historical Society (Past President and Treasurer); Helvetia Sharpshooters Society (Life Member); Highland Pistol & Rifle Club (Past Pres and Treasurer, Life Member); National Rifle Association (Life Member); Civil Air Patrol as a youth.
He was preceded in death by his father, Victor L. Seifried, mother, Arline S., nee Zobrist, Seifried; sister, Marilyn A. Wenzel; brother, William J. Seifried; and stepgrandson, Brian Edward Landert.
Survivors include wife, Rosemary M., nee Hohrein, Seifried, whom he married on Oct. 24, 1953; his children, Donald R. (Charolette) Seifried, Jr. of Highland, Ill., Karen L. Haller of Highland, Ill., Sheri J. (Todd) Ernst of Highland, Ill., and Brian T. Seifried of Highland, Ill.; grandchildren, Meagan M.N. (fiance Justin Cox) Westerman of Highland, Ill., Shannon M. (Brandon) Sudholt of Aviston, Ill., Danielle L. Seifried of Highland, Ill., Seaman Second Christopher W. Seifried, U.S. Navy (twin) of Great Lakes, Ill., Lindsey N. (special friend, Kyle Turley) Seifried (twin) of Marine, Ill., Scott M. Haller of Highland, Ill., Kurt M. Haller of Pocahontas, Ill., Jared T. Ernst of Highland, Ill., Andrew S. Ernst of Highland, Ill., Katie J. (significant other, Carl Richter) Ernst of Highland, Ill., Kyle S. (significant other, Heather Ohren) Ernst of Highland, Ill., and Meggie A. Ernst of Highland, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Alex J. Westerman, Keshaan D. Matthews, Roman J. Cox, Breonna Sudholt, Brooklyn Sudholt, Brannon M. Haller, Griffen E. Haller, Kyleigh A. Haller, Madison P. Haller, and Hailey J. Richter, a brother, Kenneth V. (Venita) Seifried; and a brother in-law, Gerald D. (Marlyss) Wenzel of Highland, Ill.
Memorial contributions may be made to charity of donor's choice.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2007, and from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2007, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home, Highland, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2007, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill., with Rev. James Palakudy, SAC, St. Paul Catholic Church Highland, Ill., officiating. Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, Ill.

Rosemary... I am a long time friend of Don and you from back to the late 50's. My wife and I used to do his flea market and a couple of years later we open our own, pattern after his show. I worked at the PD with your husband for about 20 years before I left there.
Don was a great guy and gentleman and he will be sorely missed.
