Gary Dashner

Gary K. Dashner, 67, of Red Bud, Ill., born Feb. 10, 1943, in St. Louis, Mo., died Thursday, March 11, 2010, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville, Ill.

Mr. Dashner was the owner of G & T Archery in Red Bud, Ill., and had worked for 30 years at Menard Correctional Center in Chester, Ill. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Red Bud, Ill., the National Rifle Association and the Turkey Federation. He was a past leader of Boy Scout Troop 343, and started Explorer Troop 343.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Gregory Dashner; father-in-law; step-father-in-law; mother-in-law; a sister; and a brother in infancy.

Surviving are his wife, Gerry, nee Rausch, Dashner of Red Bud, Ill., whom he married on Oct. 13, 1962, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Hecker, Ill.; son, Terry (Mary Jane) Dashner of Red Bud, Ill.; mother, Pearl, nee Guebert, Dashner of Red Bud, Ill.; brother, Steve (Susie) Dashner of Belleville, Ill.; and his canine companion, Bailey.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Catholic Church, Children's Hospital or to the donor's choice.

Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2010, and from 1 to 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Koch-Liefer Funeral Home in Red Bud, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at the funeral home with Father Dennis Schaefer officiating. Interment will be in St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery, Hecker, Ill.
