Belleville, Illinois - George Hasenstab, 90, of Belleville, IL, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend died Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.
Born July 9, 1931, to George and Virginia Hasenstab, he grew up in Belleville and was a proud 1949 graduate of Cathedral High School where he formed lifelong friendships. As a man of great faith, he was an active volunteer at his beloved St. Mary's Church in Belleville, IL. George was a selfless man, the first to help anyone in need. He was a generous donor to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Stella Wagner Foundation, and countless other charities.
He is survived by his wife Alice, nee Biver, Hasenstab; and his children, Mary (Jim) Frierdich, Julie (Dana Hunsche) Hasenstab, and Tim (Cathy) Hasenstab. He was blessed with eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his sons, George and Lenny Hasenstab; granddaughter, Becky Hasenstab; and great-grandson, Finley Esker; his parents, George W. and Virginia, nee Miller, Hasenstab; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Fannie, nee Loyet, Biver; and a sister, Patricia (Clay) Campbell. Also preceding him were many wonderful sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.
In keeping with George's well-established priorities, he had requested that, in place of flowers or memorials, loved ones and friends do a special good deed to someone in need. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.
Visitation: Friends may visit from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2022, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.
Funeral: A memorial mass will be at 6 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2022, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.
