Haig Ohanian Obituary

Scottsdale, Arizona - Haig Ohanian, 86, of O'Fallon, IL and Sun City, AZ passed away peacefully on September 24, 2021 with his wife Marie by his side. Haig was born September 27, 1934 in East St. Louis, IL to Kevork and Bayzar Ohanian. He graduated from East Side High School in 1952. He married his wife, Marie (nee Frisse) in 1955 and shared 66 years of marriage. They were blessed with four children, Jerry, Annamarie, Paul, and Michael.
Haig was best known for his smile that always reached his eyes and lit up a room. Whether hosting large gatherings or small family dinners, he loved being surrounded by family and friends. Following his retirement from Monsanto, Haig and Marie spent their summers in Illinois, having breakfast with his buddy Dick on Thursdays, eating waffles with family on Fridays, and attending countless family dinners. The rest of the year was spent in Sun City, Arizona cheering on grandkids at school events, enjoying the warm weather, and reading the newspaper. Wherever he was, Marie was by his side till the end.
Haig never knew a stranger and left a lasting impression on everyone with his kindness. He knew what it was like to struggle to make ends meet, and believed strongly in giving to charity and helping anyone down on their luck. Above all, he taught his family how to love.
Haig is survived by his wife, Marie; children, Jerry (Regina) Ohanian of O'Fallon, IL, Annamarie (Jeff) Scharringhausen of Troy, IL, Paul (Kathleen) Ohanian of Scottsdale, AZ, Michael Ohanian of Collinsville, IL; nine grandchildren, Sairee (Craig) Knabe, Erica (Thomas) Doellman, Jerry, Sheree, Alexis, Christian, Samuel, Ethan, Sophie; and six great-grandchildren. Haig was proceeded in death by his parents, his brother, Adam, and his best friend, Dick Vartanian.
At this point, a date for a memorial service has not been decided. The family asks that you honor Haig's life by spending time with those you love, and sharing your smile with the world the same way he always did. Donations can be made to St. Vincent DePaul or the Armenian Wounded Heroes Fund.

Marie,
My Mom, Mary Walther told me of Haig's passing. Although I never met him, mom always spoke highly of you and Haig and the love you had for each other. I can't begin to imagine how much you will miss him. Just be sure to reach out to family and friends at this difficult time. May our Lord's love comfort you.
