Jesse P. Gurley, 92, born July 15, 1912, in Gorinth, Miss., died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at Kenneth Hall Regional Hospital, East St. Louis, Ill.
Mr. Gurley being ambitious and wanting to provide for his family, he attended air conditioning and heating school and received, certificate in this field. Mr. Gurley was educated in the Alcorn County school system. He moved with his late wife, Martha, to East St. Louis in 1942, where they united with the Truelight Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. J.A. Lampley. Mr. Gurley was a quiet gentleman and he was very devoed to his family and church. Before his health began to fail, Mr. Gurley was a very active member in his church, serving in the choir, Sunday school, deacon board and finance committee. In his younger hears, Mr. Gurley was employed at American Steel Foundry and later worked at Intercoastal Paint Corp., the Metro-East Journal and St. Mary's Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Gurley, who passed away one year ago; his parents, Jesse and Mary, nee Shorter, Gurley;
Surviving are three sons, Jesse (Earline) of Collinsville, Ill., Marshal and Parness, both of East St. Louis, Ill.; a brother-in-law, Eli (Mae Bell) Gurley; five grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at Truelight Baptist Church, East St. Louis, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at Truelight Baptist Church, East St. Louis, Ill. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens of Memory, Millstadt, Ill.
