Joseph Daugherty Obituary
Joseph Bernard Daugherty Jr., 76, of Granite City, IL, passed away at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Highland Health Care in Highland, IL.
He was born Jan. 19, 1942 in St. Louis, MO to the late Joseph Bernard and Lucille, nee Byrd, Daugherty Sr.
On Jan. 21, 1967, he and Jean Zimmerman were married in Madison, IL, and she survives in Granite City.
Mr. Daugherty was a U.S Navy Vietnam veteran (Aviation Electrician) and after his military service had been a Quality Insurance Inspector for the Civil Service. He was a member of VP-40 and was the sole survivor of a QE-1 VP-40 crash Aug. 2, 1962 in the Philippines. He had a passion for genealogy and inventing, enjoyed fishing, and was an entrepreneur. He was a strong veterans' advocate, assisting other vets on disability.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons: Devon and Matthew Daugherty; 2 sisters: Donna Carter and Connie Crippen; and his step-father: Wally Crippen.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are 3 sons: Joseph Bernard (Tamara) Daugherty III of St. Louis, MO, John Daugherty of Worden, IL and Gerald Daugherty of San Leon, TX; 6 grandchildren: Brendyn, Megan, Nathan, Katelyn, Erin and Cody; 2 brothers: Bill and Bruce Daugherty; and 3 sisters: Barb Coonce, Bonnie (Kenny) Hamontree and Beverly (Lee) Asher.
Memorials may be made to Disable American Veterans. Arrangements with online information available at www.wojstrom.com.
Visitation: Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory, Granite City, IL.
Funeral: Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2018. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL.

Bernie will be missed by his fellow VP40 shipmates, as he was always had a smile and a funny story about our times in VP40.
