LaVerta Christ Obituary
LaVerta S. Christ, nee Engelmann, 89, of Mascoutah, Ill., born July 22, 1928 in Okawville, Ill., died Monday, Sept. 4, 2017 at the MarKa Nursing Home in Mascoutah, Ill.
LaVerta was a retired food service manager from Mascoutah School District 19; a member of Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah, Ill., HCCCW, and Women of the Moose Chapter 392 in Mascoutah, Ill. She enjoyed quilting, cooking and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Lydia, nee Brammeier, Engelmann; husband, Eugene Christ whom she married in Okawville, Ill., on Nov. 6, 1946 and who died on Apr. 24, 2004; a brother, George Koenig; four sisters, Reva Cape, Lorraine Steinkamp, LaVera Rakers, and Lillian Holtgrewe; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Surviving are her children, Sally (Dave) Kunze of Belleville, Ill., and Frederick (Marlene) Christ of Fairview Heights, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Tina (Steve) Perschbacher, Keith Kunze, Kevin (Melissa) Kunze, Nicole (Jason) McIntyre, Bryan (Carrie) Christ, Alecia (friend, Steve) Evans, and Curtis (friend, Andrea) Christ; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Laura Sullivan of Mascoutah, Ill., and Lydia Dotson of New Athens, Ill.; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of close friends.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 9370 Olive Blvd., St. Louis, Mo. 63132; MarKa Nursing Home, 201 S. 10th St., Mascoutah, Ill. 62258; or Holy Childhood Memorial Improvement Fund, P. Visitation: Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, Ill. There will be a prayer service at 4 p.m. Wednesday and Women of the Moose Ritual at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening, both at the funeral home.
Funeral: Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017 at the Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah, Ill., with Father Paul Wienhoff officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Childhood Catholic Cemetery, Mascoutah, Ill.

Our Deepest Sympathy to the entire Christ and Kunze Families
Laverta was an incredible neighbor and friend to our family for 42 years. Since building our home in Mascoutah in 1975 Christs were always there for us with a helping hand. Gene would mow the farm perimeters before we had a tractor. In the winter, he would clear the snow off the driveway for Jane's beauty shop customers. Laverta would always watch over our home when our family was out of town for an extended period of time. She was very good about that. No matter what, Gene and Laverta were continuously there for us and were irreplaceable friends and neighbors. Jane and I were very, very fortunate to have Christs next to us when starting out with a young family and as life went on.
I can only say may God bless Laverta and Gene both. They were absolutely the best. My heart goes out to the entire Christ/Kunze family.
The entire Pauley family will never forget them and always cherish the relationship we had as country neighbors and friends.

Sally and Fred,
Please accept my sympathy. I would see your Mom at Millie Hoffmann's house, at church and of course at school. She was one of the sweetest ladies I've ever known. She had such a beautiful smile and was always so soft spoken, but always said hi to us as kids.
