Margaret Mathis Obituary
Margaret A. Mathis, 75, of Granite City, Ill., born on Feb. 28, 1935, in Dover, Tenn., passed away at 7:50 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011.
Mrs. Mathis worked for the Granite City Library as a library page and retired in 1990 after several years of dedicated service. She was a member of Good Samaritan Church of the Nazarene in Collinsville, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Hubert "Buck" and Pauline, nee Smith, Finch; step father, Wilford "Bill" Smith; and brother, Earl G. Finch.
Surviving are her beloved husband of 58 years, James "J.W." Mathis; son, Steven Mathis of Mississippi; daughter, Brenda (Kevin) Mestel of Collinsville, Ill.; brothers, James M. Finch and Wayne Smith, both of Dover, Tenn.; sisters, Judy Crites of Granite City, Ill., and Janice Wells of Kokomo, Ind.; grandchildren, Scott Mestel, Justin Mathis and Holly and Brent Golden; great-grandchildren, Austin Mestel, Wyatt and Cameron Golden.
Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, Ill.
Funeral: Services in celebration of her life will be held at noon Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard Unger and the Rev. Kevin Hancock officiating; Burial at Lake View Memorial Gardens Fairview Heights, Ill.

Brenda, we are sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. We did not know her, but we are sure she was a wonderful mother as she raised a wonderful daughter. I have many fond memories of time spent with Margaret and your family during my childhood that I will cherish forever. She was a beautiful lady in so many ways. I always remember her smile and how she loved her family...and everyone !
