Smithton, Illinois - Michael Leroy Valentine, 73, of Smithton, IL, born April 25, 1949, in Belleville, IL, died Monday, May 16, 2022, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, O'Fallon, IL.
Mr. Valentine had worked as a diesel mechanic for Illinois Central Gulf Railroad for 30 years, and later for the Village of Smithton Street Department.
He was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Valentine; his parents, Belmont and Rosemary, nee Ledbetter, Valentine; a brother, Belmont Valentine, Jr.; and a nephew, Adam Valentine.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia A., nee Riebeling, Valentine; two sons, Scott Valentine and Brent Valentine; a granddaughter, Amanda (Scott) Taylor; a grandson, Nicholas Valentine; a great-granddaughter, Willa Taylor; a sister, Peggy (James) Aschenbrenner of Morton, IL; three brothers, Danny Valentine of Smithton, IL, Corby (Sharon) Valentine of Freeburg, IL, and Timothy Valentine of Edwardsville, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2022, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2022, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, with Deacon Corby Valentine officiating.
Burial will be at Smithton City Cemetery, Smithton, IL.
