Milton Mueller

Milton H. "Uncle Milty" Mueller, 87, of Waterloo, Ill., born Jan. 22, 1923, in Valmeyer, Ill., died on Sunday, March 14, 2010, in Waterloo, Ill.

Mr. Mueller was a retired farmer and retired truck driver for Rubemeyer Trucking and Columbia Quarry Company, Valmeyer, Ill. He was a member of Union Local 50 and was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Valmeyer, Ill., having served two terms as president and treasurer. He also served on other committees such as St. John Cemetery Board, where he served two terms as president and 15 years as treasurer. After retirement he was involved in the community and served on the City of Waterloo Centennial Committee and Waterloo Porta Westfalica Committee and 15 years as chairman for the Waterloo Lions Club. As a member of the Waterloo Lions Club, he served two years as president, seven years as treasurer and received numerous awards from the club as follows: Lion of the Year, President Award twice, Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, International Association of Lions Club Live Membership Award. He served on Lions District 1CN Cabinet and served as District 1CN as Zone 3 chairman for 15 years, District 1CN vice governor from 1993 to 1994, Chairman District 1CN 1993 Flood Toys Committee, Illinois Lions Clubs of Illinois 1CN Clubs and Missouri Lions Clubs during 1993 Flood and received Flood Toys Award. He was a member of Valmeyer Optimists from 1963 to 1966.

Milton was preceded in death by his parents, George C. and Maria, nee Bertram, Mueller; brother, Floyd Mueller; sisters, Betty Scariot, Frieda Voelker and Ruth Fehrenz; brothers-in-law, Harold Voelker, Oliver Fehrenz and Geno Scariot; and a sister-in-law, Edith Meister.

Surviving are his wife, Florence, nee Meister, Mueller; children, Bruce (Pamela) Mueller, Bonnie (Steven) Volkert, Janet (John) Garleb, Susan (Rick) Unterseh and Marcia (Vince) Mehrtens; grandchildren, Carolyn, Phillip and Ian Mueller, Michelle (Shaun) Behrmann, Nicole Volkert, Alison, Laura and Melanie (fiance, Matt Schmitz) Garleb, Nicholas (Bethany) Unterseh, Julie and Ryan Unterseh, Heather and Johnathan Mehrtens; step grandchildren, Jeannie (Phillip) Fussellman, Kelly Coleman, Thomas Reiman and Chad (Melodie) Reiman; great-granddaughters, Ashley and Alexandra Behrmann; seven step great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie (Wilbert) Voelker; brothers-in-law, Willard (Doris) Meister, Frederick Meister and Vernon (Ruth) Meister; sister-in-law, Ada Mueller; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great-nephews, his Lions Club family and many friends.

Memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ Mortgage Fund, Valmeyer, Ill., Oak Hill Activity Fund or Waterloo Lions Club.

Visitation: Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Quernheim Funeral Home in Waterloo, Ill., and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010, at St. John United Church of Christ in Valmeyer, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2010, at St. John UCC in Valmeyer, Ill., with Pastor David Riebeling officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Valmeyer, Ill.

Very sorry for the Mueller's family lost. My wife and I were members of the Waterloo Lions Club and remember Milton well. He always seemed to be positive and with a smile you could not forget. He was a good friend.
