New Athens, Illinois - Norma Jean "Nonnie" Schoepp, nee Wagner, 87, of New Athens, IL, born February 27, 1934, in Belleville, IL, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday January 19, 2022. She was a medical assistant for Dr. Bernard Strassman in New Athens, a manager at the New Athens Shoe factory and the plant manager at Mallinckrodt Medical in New Athens, IL. Mrs. Schoepp was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Athens, a member of the Lutheran Women's League and the Auxiliary Committee of the New Athens Home for the Aged.
Nonnie's greatest joy was spending time with her family. During the early years, Nonnie and husband Ardell spent many weekends camping at the Marissa Rec Area. As their family grew, they enjoyed many family vacations with their children and grandchildren. Nonnie participated in both line dancing and Seniors trips with the PSOP. In her free time, she could be found baking delicious desserts in her kitchen. Her grandchildren loved her Texas chocolate sheet cake.
She was preceded in death by her parents - Norman and Marie (Beimbrink) Wagner, her husband - Ardell Schoepp, whom she married on August 3, 1952, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Athens, IL and who preceded her in death on November 7, 1999, two daughters - Jane Schoepp and Lynne Powell, granddaughter - Jill Powell, son-in-law - Ronald "Shorty" Powell, her brother - Arthur Wagner, brother-in-law - Delmar Frech and two sisters-in-law - Mae Keil and Karen Wagner, and by her mother and father-in-law - Elmer and Olinda Schoepp.
Nonnie is survived by three children - Alan (Anne) Schoepp of Ben Lomond, CA, Mary Lou (Todd) Pruett of Belleville, IL and Diane (Skip Thomas) Geraghty of Pagosa Springs, CO, one sister - Shirley Frech of Milan, TN, one brother - Ronald Wagner of Freeburg, IL, twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to be made to Vitas Hospice or to the New Athens Home for the Aged.
Visitation: Visiting hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday January 24, 2022, and again from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday January 25, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Athens, IL.
Funeral: Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday January 25, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Athens, IL with Rev. Lyle Buettner officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery in New Athens, IL.
