Norma Walton

Norma B. Walton, 89, of Granite City, Ill., born Dec. 3, 1926, in Granite City, Ill., passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at her home.

Norma was a life long homemaker and a volunteer. She gave countless hours of her time as a Girl Scout leader and to the PTA. She was a member of GC First Church in Granite City where she volunteered her time and in her early years Norma was a reporter for the Press Record. Norma will be remembered for her giving heart and all the special times she shared with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Denny Walton, whom she married on Jan. 20, 1945; her parents, Major Riley and Ruth, nee Travis, Hildreth; her sisters, Marguerite and Nell; and her brother, William.

She is survived by and will be missed by her children, Judy and (Ken) Andrews of Granite City, Paula and (Harold) Gonterman of Granite City, Nelda and (Gary) Sanders of Granite City, Chester "Chuck" Walton of Davis, Ill.; grandchildren, Laura and (Martin) Mengarelli, Kara and (Danny) Williams, David Gonterman, Noah and (Dee Dee) Gonterman, Heather and (Tim) Connelly, Bryan and (Corinna) Sanders, Hillary and (Mike) Stapf; eight great-grandchildren; and her sister, Naoma Latham.

Memorials are suggested to GC First Build Fund. Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City is serving the family.

Visitation: In celebration of Norma's life, friends may visit from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 4, 2016, at GC First, 2317 Madison Ave., in Granite City, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, June 4, 2016, at the church with Pastor Rich Smallie and Pastor Byron Wampler officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Glen Carbon, Ill.
