Ronald Veizer
Ronald J. Veizer, 70, former chief of Police of Granite City, Ill., born March 8, 1933, in Granite City, Ill., died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at Gateway Regional Medical Center, Granite City, Ill.
Chief Veizer served as chief of police in Granite City, Ill., for 191/2 years. He retired in 1985, after 33 years of service. He attended special training at the FBI Academy and also served for 12 years as director of patrol for the Madison County sheriff's department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Chief Veizer was a member of the Illinois Association of Police Chiefs, where he was a past president, the Illinois Police Association, the Illinois PBPA, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Madison County Police Association, the Southern Illinois Police Chiefs Association, the International Association for Identification and past president of the Illinois division of the International Association for Identification, and the Madison-St. Clair County Chiefs Association.
He was a former board member of the Behavioral Health Alternatives, Co-ordinated Youth Services, MEGSI (founding member), Southern Illinois Law Enforcement Commission, Explorer Scout Post 1033, and Catholic Charities.
Chief Veizer was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary, nee Lushki, Veizer.
Surviving are his wife, Wilma, nee Sievers, Veizer of Granite City, Ill.; his children, Gail (Randy) Henrichs of Springfield, Mo., Rhonda Grider of Tucson, Ariz., Barbara (Greg) Kinder of Florissant, Mo., Carla Veizer of Granite City, Ill., and John (Lisa) Veizer of Granite City, Ill., Chris (Joelle) Veizer of Glen Carbon, Ill., and David (Mary) Veizer of St. Rose, Ill.; a brother, George Veizer Jr. of Walnut, Calif.; and his grandchildren, Sean, Erika and Erin Grider, Ian, Evan Veizer, Cierra, Nathan Veizer and Kalyn and Morgan Veizer.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor's choice.

Visitation: There will be no visitation.

Funeral: Memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Madison, Ill., with the Rev. Francis Tebangura officiating. Chief Veizer donated his body to medical science at St. Louis University Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.
