Shirley Bevirt Obituary

Shirley Ruth Bevirt
July 30, 1925 - May 16, 2021
Belleville, Illinois - Shirley Ruth (Dahm) Bevirt, age 95, passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, May 16, 2021. She was born on July 30, 1925, and was a longtime resident of Belleville, IL.
Shirley Ruth and Hugh Allen Bevirt were wed on April 9, 1946, at St. Luke's Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, while Mr. Bevirt was home on leave from the U.S. Navy. In June Mrs. Bevirt joined her husband in San Francisco where he had been stationed during WWII. After her husband's discharge from the Navy the couple and their 2 children returned to Belleville in October of 1950. Mr. and Mrs. Bevirt had 5 children and celebrated 56 years of marriage.
Mrs. Bevirt is survived by her daughters, Nancy S. (Michael) Kovack, Newbugh, IN, and Lois J. Bevirt, Belleville, daughter-in-law, Virginia "Ginnah" (Bauer) Bevirt, Papillion, NE, and son-in-law, Robert A. Pierce, Shiloh, IL.
She is survived by 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; Jeffrey H. (Kristi) Bevirt, Stephanie A. Pierce, Dr. Christopher M. (Kelly) Pierce, Matthew A. (Sarah) Kovack, Jonathan M. (Mallory) Kovack, Zachary T. (Nina) Kovack, and Anna-Marie E. (Matt) White. Mrs. Bevirt's great-grandchildren are Henry, Damien, Zoey, Eliza, Crosby, Levi, Lucy, Johnna, Julia, Maura, Keon, Arden and Rowan. She was also an aunt of 22 nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Bevirt was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Allen, sons, Gregory A. and Jeffrey H., granddaughter, Meredith K. Kovack, and just recently, her daughter Dianne I. Pierce; her parents, Francis E. and Anna C. (Selementi) Dahm, her brothers and their spouses, Kenneth (Shirley Jean) Dahm and Norman (Dolores) Dahm, and her nephew, William Dahm.
Lois Jean's steadfast support and devotion ensured our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was well-taken care of. She kept our family updated via group texts and emails, phone calls, and the occasional video chats. Lois' dedication is a testament of her strength and character, and, in turn, a blessing to the family.
The family also recognize the following who have been loving and supportive: Mrs. Bevirt's niece and goddaughter, Kathy Dahm Lowe, friends, Sally and Jon Jonas, caregiver and friend, Margaret Lehr, Dr. Craig K. Reiss at St. Luke's Hospital, his nurse, Karen Horn, and his staff, and the HSHS Home Care and Hospice Southern Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation in Mrs. Bevirt's memory can be made to the Poor Clare Monastery of Our Lady of Mercy, 300 N. 60th St., Belleville, IL 62223. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.
