Maryville, Illinois - Theodore Joseph Kocot Sr., age 85, of Maryville, IL, born August 28, 1937 in East St. Louis, IL, passed away at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL, on Saturday May 13, 2023.
Ted began his career with Granite City Steel in Granite City, IL as an open hearth laborer in 1952 and retired as a manager in 1992. His retirement was short-lived as he subsequently worked as a consultant for North American Refractories Company until 2012, which led to travel to Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and South Africa. Ted was a talented man who built his family's home and could be relied on by friends and family for help with anything from fixing a leak to installing brakes on their car. He never met a stranger. He liked to bowl, kept his yard meticulous, cheered on the St. Louis Cardinals, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Joseph and Camille (nee Sirna) Kocot, his niece Ronda and brother-in-law Jerry Weil.
He is survived by his wife, Donna (nee Wydra) Kocot, whom he married on May 29, 1965; two sons and a daughter: Theodore (Patty) Kocot Jr. of St. Louis, MO, Kevin Kocot of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Maureen (K.J.) Kocot-Watts of Columbus, OH; four grandchildren: Kennedy, Karenna, Kalissa, and Konnoly; one brother: Joseph (Sue) Kocot of Lake Ozark, MO, three sisters; Carolyn Weil of Collinsville, IL, Maria Clark of Collinsville, IL, and Angela (Ollie) Souffle of Collinsville, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL, and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30am on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Rob Johnson celebrant. Burial will be in Fairland Cemetery, Maryville, IL.
Memorials are suggested to Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church or the Ronald McDonald House and will be received at the visitation or may be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 North Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
