Belleville, Illinois - Victor Patrick Canty, 95, of Belleville, IL, born on December 5, 1927, in Caseyville Township, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at St. Paul's Home in Belleville, IL.
Victor was involved in many organizations, such as Lincoln Trail Optimist Club, Fairview VFW Post 867, Fairview Knights of Columbus, Belleville and Fairview Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion, St. Clair County Farm Bureau, and he was the first St. Clair County Board Chairman who was elected by the people. He also enjoyed hobbies like woodworking, piloting a single-engine plane, and was also a master gardener. Victor was also the supervisor of Caseyville Township.
Victor is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Matilda Canty (nee Neuner); his beloved wife, Loretta Jane Canty (nee Doerle); and five siblings, Ivy Buesse, Florence Belt, Juanita Peterson, Walter Canty, and Ralph Canty.
Victor is survived by his three children, Vicky Kuthe of Belleville, IL, Sheila (A. Jay) Bonn of Belleville, IL, Bruce (significant other Bridgid Riebold) Canty of Fairview Heights, IL; five grandchildren, Erika Fitzgibbon, Jason Bonn, Mandy Bonn, Zackary Canty, Paul Kuthe; four great-grandchildren, Addison Fitzgibbon, Ava Fitzgibbon, Canyon Kuthe, Cedar Kuthe; special friend, Betty Burrelsman; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; https://www.stjude.org/donate, Fairview Heights food pantry, St. Stephen's Catholic Church; https://www.ststephencaseyville.org/, or Family Hospice; https://familyhospice.org/donate/. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.schildknechtfh.com.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Schildknecht Funeral Home; 301 S. Lincoln Ave., O'Fallon, IL 62269.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, February 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's Catholic Church; 901 S. Main St., Caseyville, IL 62232. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Fairview Heights, IL.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Schildknecht Funeral Home, O'Fallon, IL.

Bruce, Sheila, Vicky and the Canty Family - We are very sorry for your loss. It was a privilege to know Vic. He was a wonderful person and the best next-door neighbor we could ever have. Not only did Vic have a green thumb, but we shared a common joy at Christmas - decorating and making our yards cheery and bright.
