Victor Wobbe

Victor J. "Vic" Wobbe, 93, of Trenton, Ill., born Jan. 16, 1921, in Albers, Ill., died Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at Country Side Manor in Aviston, Ill.

Vic retired from carpentry and farming. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He enjoyed golfing, was an avid card player and was instrumental in the building of the existing Trenton Fire Station.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Trenton, VFW Post 7983, Aviston American Legion Post 1239, Trenton Knights of Columbus 2932, Carpenter Local 480 Freeburg, Trenton Nut House Club, past trustee of Sugar Creek Fire District, and honorary mayor of Crackemeck Road.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, nee Junghans, Wobbe, whom he married on Sept. 25, 1946, at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden, Ill., and who died July 17, 2013; a son in infancy, Bernard Wobbe; parents, Nicholas and Sophia, nee Albers, Wobbe; brothers and sisters and their spouses Frank and Elsie Wobbe, Catherine and Al Jansen, Aloys and Velma Wobbe, Herman and Louise Wobbe, Alvin Wobbe, Ann and Everett Anderson; and brothers-in-law, Raymond Junghans and Joseph Unger.

Surviving are his children, Bonnie (Dennis) Dalke of Millstadt, Joseph (Nancy) Wobbe of Trenton, Gene (Brenda) Wobbe of Trenton, Jerry (Susan) Wobbe of O'Fallon, Barb (Larry) Olliges of Naperville and Beth (Gordon "Skip) Steck of Frankfort; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Vincent "Butch" (Mary Jane) Wobbe of Belleville and Robert (Frieda) Wobbe of Caseyville; sisters-in-law, Shirley Unger of St. Louis, Mo., and Frances Wobbe of Atlanta, Ga.; and brother-in-law, Dale (Georgia) Junghans of St. Louis, Mo.

Visitation: Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2014, and 8 to 9:30 a.m. Monday July 28, 2014, at Moss Funeral Home in Trenton, Ill. The Aviston American Legion will hold services at 2:30 p.m., Trenton VFW at 3 p.m. and the Knights of Columbus at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Funeral: Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday July 28, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Trenton, Ill., with Father Joseph Rascher officiating. Interment St. Mary Cemetery.
