Andrei Brewer Obituary

It is with deep sadness and many grateful memories that we announce the passing of Andrei Brewer on June 7, 2025, on Lummi Island, Washington.

Andrei was born in Munich, Germany on October 20, 1950, and moved with his family to Fredonia, New York, in December of that year. He spent the first 20 years of his life there and attended the State University of New York at Fredonia. In the early 1970s, Andrei made his way to Washington State, where he built a life filled with creativity, friendship, and adventure.

Andrei was an adventurous, passionate, and loyal man whose interests were as wide as they were deep. He loved reef-net fishing, landscape architecture, painting, scrimshaw, gemology, and sculpting. Above all, he loved the people of Lummi Island, where he found his true home and community.

He is survived by his sister Katie Kaufman and nephew Nicholas Kaufman of Toronto, Canada; his sister Julia Brewer of Dunkirk, New York; and his half-brothers Alexander Brewer and Nathan Brewer of Jamestown, New York. He also leaves behind many close friends on Lummi Island, who will miss him dearly.

A celebration of Andrei's life will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at The Lummi Island Grange, 2215 N. Nugent Rd. Please join us in honoring his memory and sharing stories of the life he lived. There is a display of Andrei's work at the Lummi Island Library through September.
