Betty Urie Obituary

Betty Jean Urie was born on March 2, 1931 in Bellingham, WA to Arnold "Barney" Olson and Lucille Olson. Betty's sister Sandra was born 10 years later. The two shared a life-long sister friendship and many interests, including an early love of music. Both studied and performed piano and voice.

Betty attended Bellingham High School and graduated in 1949. She participated in musicals and choir while in high school. She then attended Western Washington University where her friends Ted and Dolores introduced her to Joseph Howard Urie. The two dated, fell in love and married shortly after on September 7, 1951. Howard was a devoted husband and father, provided for and took care of Betty for their 52 years of marriage. He predeceased her in death in 2003.

Betty's love of music persisted her whole life. She taught voice lessons, sang in her church choir and played the piano until within months of her passing.

Betty also loved to host parties for her friends and family whether Mother's Day, 4th of July or Christmas. She always had treats or cookies to share with her guests when you would stop by to visit.

Betty's greatest love was for Jesus. She would tell you about Jesus and how he took care of her. He was faithful to her, her whole life long. In her later years she would often talk about heaven and that is where she is now with Jesus. If you don't know Jesus, you can know him and have peace. With him you can find new life, hope, forgiveness, and eternal life.

Betty went home to be with her Lord Jesus on December 2, 2024. She is survived by her three children Connie Kuchenreuther, Jerry Urie, and Cindy Sliger all of Bellingham. Her grandchildren include Alyssa Downs (husband Logan) of Woodburn, OR, Matthew Urie (wife Rachelle) of Lynden, WA and Bradly Sliger (wife Keri) of Woodinville, WA. In addition, a nephew and several grandchildren extend her legacy.

Betty was such a lovely lady with a beautiful voice! I knew her through Bellingham Music Club for many years and will never forget the Cat Duet song she sang with her sister, Sandra Murphy.
