Donald Schwemmin Obituary

Donald was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the only child of Harold and Florence. He graduated from the University of Michigan where he completed his MS in botany and biology in 1954. He served two years in the US Army at the end of the Korean War at Fort Detrick, Maryland. He returned to UM for his PhD and to marry Shirley Schnell, with whom he shared two children: Matthew (Cindi) and Rebecca. Don joined the faculty of the Biology Department at Western Washington University in 1960. He taught microbiology, cell physiology, and genetics until his retirement in 1990. Don lost his Shirley but found and married his Ann Marie ten years later. Don wished to thank Doctors McKinney, Douglas, Daniels, Griggs, Matteucci, Lotfi, Doherty, Hoofnagle, and Wade for helping him reach and enjoy 85 years. At his request, there will be no funeral services. A party celebrating Don will be held at a future time. Donations in his memory may be made to the Biology Dept. To his students everywhere: he is proud of you and remember the final exam is always comprehensive. A Fanatic Wolverine his whole life, Don wanted this to end with, "Go Blue".
