Gregory Bailey Obituary

Gregory Joseph Bailey

November 1, 1959 - August 18, 2024

Bellingham, Washington - Gregory Joseph Bailey, 64, of Bellingham, passed away unexpectedly on August 18, 2024, following complications from a planned surgery. Greg was born on November 1, 1959 to Elaine and Chuck Bailey in Bellingham, WA. He graduated from Lynden High School in 1978, where he lettered in numerous sports including football, baseball and wrestling. After high school he attended Wenatchee Junior College. For the past 23 years, Greg was a custodian at Western Washington University where he made many lasting friendships with his co-workers.

Greg had many adventures in his life, starting at a young age. He and his family spent summers swimming and waterskiing at his grandparent's house on Lake Whatcom, traveled to Los Angeles to visit his grandparents, the east coast, Hawaii, Barbados, and went on a month-long trip to Europe. He enjoyed downhill skiing, golfing and softball. In 2005 he met his life partner, Laura. As a couple, they enjoyed caring for the beautiful home and hobby ranch they shared, raising animals, and tending to their gardens and apple orchard. Greg and Laura took many RV trips to visit National Parks, including Yellowstone, Arches, Glacier, and Grand Teton. Their most recent adventure was to the Washington Beaches.

Greg was always on the lookout for the best fishing, traveling with Laura to numerous lakes in B.C and Washington, including his favorite, Lake Pearrygin. He was a great conversationalist, gifted storyteller, and had a strong sense of justice, known to vociferously defend those he felt were being treated unfairly.

Greg will be missed dearly by his family and friends. He is survived by his life partner Laura Hansen, daughter Francis, parents Elaine and Charles, brothers Michael, Wade (Nancy), Jeffrey, sister Kathi, niece Karlie, nephews Kael, Scott and Kyle, his great nieces and nephews, Laura's daughters Melissa, Nicole and Leslie and their families, and many more friends and family.

A graveside service will be held at Greenacres Memorial Park on Friday September 6 at 2 p.m. with a reception to follow.

Obviously, Greg touched many people's lives. Basically, anybody that he met!
It is incredibly painful to think of Greg's passing.
Yet, we have not lost Greg, He is here, Right next to us!
You can almost see his mischievous smile and those twinkling eyes.
Greg was a very high vibrational individual.
It's just that he's vibrating so high now we can't see him.
Thank you Greg.

I remember him from the Northwood Store. I lived in Northwood Apartments across the road and would buy beer, smokes, and groceries from him. My brother Daryl went to high school with him. Although I didn´t really know him personally, he made me smile every time I saw him.

This news makes me very sad . Greg and I were ski buddies in high school and shared many fun and mischievous times. Though we never stayed in contact after high school I am not surprised he continued to pursue and enjoy the great outdoors with his life partner and family... my sincere condolences to all of you . He was a gem of a friend in our youth and I am sure he will be greatly missed.
Oh and we shared the same birthday!
