James Tincker Obituary

James M. Tincker, 80, went to be with the Lord, on Monday, November 29, 2010. His wife, Patti, was by his side at their family home. Born and raised in Bellingham, Jim's career in local media broadcasting spanned over four decades, retiring as long time General Manager of KPUG/ KAFE radio stations. His mentoring style helped many in their pursuit to excel in the broadcast industry. Jim was a life long avid skier and golfer. Until his later years, he loved running, competing in many events, including Ski-to-Sea. In fact, he would attempt to excel at just about any endeavor that came his way. Jim and Patti spent many summers boating with friends and family in our area waters. In recent years, Jim became a fixture at Raspberry Ridge golf course where he played almost daily with both new and old friends. Jim truly enjoyed life, his family, community and God.

Mr. Tincker is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Tincker; son Mark Tincker; daughters Susan Wean and Tandy Gibson; grandsons, Evan and Shannon Wean, Ryan and Christopher Tincker and Chase Gibson; and three great- great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Whatcom Hospice.

Graveside services Wednesday, December 1, at 2:00 PM at Moles Greenacres Cemetery. A memorial service at North County Christ the King Church, Lynden, is pending.

I met Jim in 1962, he was my first boss and what a man he was. I worked for him for 3 years and his mentoring was invaluable for the rest of my working life. I'll miss you Tink, RIP.

Jim--do you remember when it was important to be cool? You were cool back then & you were cool right up to the end.

I realized that I had something more to say. Jim was always there for me. The love and support I felt from him over the years was amazing. He was a wonderful grandfather and gave his grand children anything he could. I hope that each and every one of them will remember what an amazing man he was. I'm sorry that I didn't have the opportunity to tell him how wonderful he was while he was here on earth. I'll see him someday in heaven.

Jim will be so missed especially by his loving wife, Patti. I had the priveledge of serving him at Raspberry Ridge, dinner here, and we were on the same greeting team at church. Jim was alway cheerful, always had a kind word and just one of those guys you wanted to be around. Knowing he went to heaven is a great joy. We look forward to seeing him again some day. Meantime, he will be greatly missed.

Jim was as old as my in laws, but I never realized that, because he was just my friend. I met Jim through business, but very soon, it was just a friendship. There were so many golf games, and while Jim was always the oldest of the group, he was almost always the low scorer, he just would say," I just hit it down the middle, and you guys hit it somewhere else". Jim was one of the classiest guys I've ever known. He was always dressed the best of anyone in the room, and he would just stand out. I haven't seen Jim in a few years, and even before he got sick, I was hoping that we could get together, one more time. The hardest part about getting older is, that you start to lose people that were part of your life, and while Jim may not have known it, he was. I hope that the others that have preceeded him, will make him feel at home. Thanks Jim for being a freind, and I will truly miss you.

Patti and kids,
Charlotte and I offer our sincere condolences on the passing of Jim. As an older cousin in the Knaus family, Jim was always looked up to because of his sucess in the radio business and as a family member to whom you could talk. I know that his parents, Jim and Molly Tincker, were very proud of their son as were the numerous cousins, nephews, and relatives. Jim will be missed but we will always remember him. God bless, George & Charlotte Knaus,

I was one of the lucky ones to have been mentored by Jim. I worked for him at KPUG and KAFE from 1987-1996 and have always had fond memories and much respect. He was a good man and he will be missed. My deepest condolences to the family.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Jim. I started my career in advertising 41 years ago and had many opportunities to work with Jim. I always admired and appreciated he compassion, thoughtfulness and commitment to radio and the clients. Always willing to go the extra mile for you. He will truly be missed. Having Jim be part of so many lives was God's blessing to us and now he is with God. Thank you Jim for leaving behind so many terrific memories to so many.

Jim hired me to do a new morning show on KPUG in 1962 while I was a student at Western. That was the year he took the station "live" with a contemporary music format. That was the beginning of his legacy and through his leadership and his concern for all the employees the station enjoyed many years of successful radio in Bellingham. His mentorship helped me in later years when I became a GM as I would recall little things he did to make the business better. All of us who are a part of his legacy will always recall with fondness the memories of the KPUG years thanks to Tink. Thank you Jim, we owe you a great deal - but your greatest reward is now before you in heaven.

In a broadcast career that spanned 42 years, Jim Tincker was one of the best bosses I ever had. That's because he was less a boss than a friend. Here was a fine gentleman and we are all the better for having known him.

Jim hired me to do the morning show on KPUG in 1962 while I was a student at Western. That was the year KPUG first went on the air with a "live" contemporary music format. His example of leadership and support for his staff resulted in a highly successfull operation, and he quietly provided the mentorship that later helped me when I became a GM. Those of us who have been a part of his legacy will always remember his graciousness and visit with foundness the memories of the KPUG years. Thanks Jim.

For many years Jim, who hired me in 1974, was my boss. My mentor. And became one of my dearest friends. Although, in actual years, I was much younger in age than Jim. You never felt an age difference. He connected so well with people of all ages. And he was so wise. If I had a difficult life decision to make. I often looked towards Jim for his guidance. And his guidance was always "right on target." When I last sat with him a few days ago on Thanksgiving. Jim was past being able to talk. But when I held his hand in prayer, he squeezed it just as he always did when giving a firm handshake. I gonna miss you Jim. Lord, you've lifted up a really wonderful guy..

I knew Jim through his son Mark, and enjoyed his spicy way of attacking life. He was a terrific man and my sympathies go out to both Mark and Susan.
