Joel Haan Obituary

Joel, age 65, passed away in Buriram, Thailand, Monday, October 4. He leaves to survive his wife Noi [Pissamai Haan] of Buriram, Thailand; two sons; Scott and wife Billie of Palmer, Alaska and Tracy and wife Sara also of Palmer. Also daughters; Megan Estey and Brooke Estey of Ferndale. Grandsons Robert and Sawyer Haan and Donnie Arthur ; granddaughters Tracie Jean, Kassie, and Colleen Haan and Erika Arthur ; his brother Robert Haan of Gig Harbor, his sister Carol Simonson of California; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Ruby, his younger brother Stephen, and his sister Janet Green. Joel was born and grew up in Bellingham graduating from Sehome High School. He was active in Sea Scouts and loved the water. He began his career as a pest control operator in his father's business, Bellingham Chemical. He spent the final years of his career as a contractor supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan before moving to Thailand, a place he grew to love during his vacations from work. Joel also enjoyed his trips to Alaska to visit his sons and their families and was happy that Noi was able to accompany him on the last trip.

My sympathy to Joel's wife and family. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. It sounds like his life was full and complete. He was a good person and I referred to him as the "Bug Guy". Great sense of humor amongst Bellingham friends. May he rest in peace.

As a young person we had many fun times together. Very sorry to hear of his passing. Such a fun guy. Thinking of him brings back many fond memories.
