Myla C. Opsvig

1931 - 2018

Myla Corrine Opsvig, 87, passed peacefully on Friday, August 24, 2018 at the Christian Health Care Center in Lynden, Washington, surrounded by her loving family. Myla's brilliant smile and infectious laugh will be greatly missed. Myla, the youngest of three, was born January 28, 1931, in Minot, North Dakota to Julius and Aleda (Nelson) Lund. She graduated from Minot High School and attended college at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. Myla loved life. She was curious about everything and everyone. Prior to marriage, she traveled Europe by bicycle, worked in the bowels of a church in England and enjoyed many adventures in Seattle with her cousin Barbara. She worked at AAA Washington in Seattle prior to marriage. On July 4, 1954, to Washington D.C. fireworks and fanfare, she married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Opsvig. Bob and Myla returned to Seattle in 1957 where they raised six children. During this time, Myla was an active volunteer at Children's Orthopedic Hospital. In 1974, the family moved to Kirkland where Myla worked for the King County Health Department. In 1996, Bob and Myla moved to Lynden, Washington where they happily spent their retirement years. Myla was active in doll and teddy bear clubs, enjoyed going to community and High School plays, and loved spending time with her family. Myla was predeceased by her parents; Bob, her husband of 61 years; brother, Ted Lund; sister, Joyce Kolberg. Survivors are her children, Robb Opsvik; Kristen (Rusty) Reams; Eric (Teresa) Opsvig; Todd (Jan) Opsvig; Heidi (Brian) Croissant; Sonja (Bob) Beal. Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. A family memorial will be determined for a later date. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for Myla during her stay at CHCC. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Christian Health Care Center in Lynden Washington, or charity of choice.
