What a great guy. We played softball together for many years in the 1980s and he always was one of the best athletes on the field. Always a smile on his face and always was genuinely happy to see you, even if it had been months between meetings. Could take a personal dig and toss 'em right back at you but never in a hurtful way. I'm sorry for the family's loss.

I am very sorry to hear of this- he was a wonderful man and my boss when I worked at his sub shop in the Fairhaven marketplace 25 years ago. I thought he was the coolest and his home, wife and little girls were the sweetets things. Most laid back, real, and cool person I've ever worked for since- including my career after I went off to college! I recognized his face first and was shocked to hear of what happened. I lost my father after caring for him after 5 years of atypical Parkinsons so I know how it feels to have the carpet pulled out beneath you. Hugs.

My memories of Pete are all good ones. In 1989 my family moved to Bellingham and as swimmers Pete (coach of the Y team) was one of the first people we met. He quickly befriended our family and made us feel at home. We would eat at his sub shop and see him about town. My fondest memories were away meets in Wenatchee and Yakima, where once Pete was brave enough to let me drive his Saab 900 Turbo. A teenage kid with a lead foot...Who does that?? Our trip to Y Nationals in Orlando was a highlight of my Sehome days. Beyond coaching, Pete was a good guy, and he will be missed.

Peter was someone I could count on for wise counsel. He could see the big picture. The last advice he gave me was about buying a house. I was second guessing myself. He said, "If you want it, buy it", so I did. Peter was definitely a man of action and a force of nature.
May you be free Peter! I hope you are happy.
Love to the family

Peter was someone I could trust with wise counsel. He could see all the angles of a thing. The last advice he gave me was about buying a house. He said, " If you want it, buy it" and so I did.
He was a force of nature and I miss him being in the world.
Be free Peter! I hope you are happy.

We will always remember Peter's smiling face on the water and his energy there and everywhere else. He was the driving force behind so many iconic events: the Paddle for Food benefit, rough water race, paddling film fests. He was also a terrific friend and great supporter of our kids and others in the community. We love you, Peter! Thanks for everything. --Eric, Annie, Nora and Zach
