Ruth Bakke Obituary

Ruth Gunderson Bakke of Burlington went to be with the Lord on February 10. She was born in Alberta, Canada on March 16, 1918 and came to Whatcom County at the age of 17. She married Aadne Bakke of Saxon & lived on the Bakke farm where they raised their six children. In 1960 Ruth and Aadne moved to Skagit county where they operated several restaurants. In 1977 Ruth became a successful realtor working until age 89. She was known for her passion for cooking and loved making pancake breakfasts for large groups by the South Fork of the Nooksack River in Saxon. In 1989 death claimed her companion of 51 years, Aadne, who was her partner in her businesses. She also lost their daughter, Kaye Doughty, and great grandaughter, Kaitlyn Peacock to death. Ruth's remaining children are Gordon Bakke, Sharon Benson, Sandi Riley, Kit LaMonte and Terri Bakke-Schultz They invite friends and family to join them on Wednesday, February 20 at 1:00 at Bethany Covenant Church, 1318 S. 18th in Mt. Vernon for Ruth's Memorial Service. Internment will follow at the Saxon Cemetery.

I'll never forget when I was a young pastor's wife, starting the Burlington Alliance Church, Ruth pulled me aside and said, "Come with me--you need some new clothes!" I wasn't going to say no to that and what fun it was to select some new things at what would now be called a "boutique." I'm sure the Lord did the same for her when she arrived on His doorstep: "Ruth, come with me--you need some new clothes!"

What a sweet loving caring lady she was. She will be miss by so many of us. But she love to sing and now she is sing with our Lord in Heaven .So you all tune your ear to Heaven and you can hear her. I know I can. We will all see her again when our Lord ask us to come home. My Prayers and Thoughts go out to her family at time of pain. But I know she is very happy now and feels like a young lady again.

Ma Bakke as we called her will be forever missed. I will always remember the first time she taught me how to make her award winning cinnamon rolls. They were the best. We will look forward to rejoining her in heaven where im sure she will be in the kitchen cooking up some great breads or cinnamon rolls. We will remember the family as they celebrate her life.
