Anthony Cook Obituary

Anthony Charles Cook, 72, a lifelong resident of Pownal, Vermont, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, following a brief illness. Born on April 21, 1953, in Bennington, Vermont, Tony was the son of the late Charles and Anna (Adams) Cook. Raised in Bennington and Pownal, he attended local schools, graduated from Mount Anthony Union High School, and later studied at St. Joseph's Business School in Bennington. As a young man, Tony proudly served in the United States Army. On June 23, 1973, Tony married the former Linda Cooper at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Bennington. Tony began his career as a truck driver while co-owning and operating Village Gift Barn in Pownal with his wife, Linda. In recent years, he worked alongside his son at their family business, Ludlow Service Center, an auto repair shop in Ludlow, Vermont. A man of many interests, Tony took great pride in working on his home, tackling maintenance and improvement projects with enthusiasm. He was always eager to lend a helping hand to family and friends. Tony also enjoyed playing baseball, softball, horseshoes, and bowling. He cherished traveling with his wife and family, with favorite destinations including; Lancaster, Pennsylvania; Niagara Falls; and Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and especially their vacation home in Vero Beach, Florida. Above all, Tony treasured his time with family and friends. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Tony is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Linda Cook; his son, Heath Cook (Tina); his cherished granddaughters, Olivia and Sophia; his brothers, Raymond Dennis and Christopher Cook; as well as many members of the Cooper family, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Debra Tatro. Following Tony's wishes, no formal funeral services will be held. The family plans to host a celebration of life at a later date. Tony was a great mechanic and a wonderful friend, he was always willing to put aside time to help when we were in a bind. His passing is a tremendous loss to our community and I will miss the conversations and visits with him. Condolences to Heath his wife and family members.

Linda, I´m so sorry to hear this sad news. I knew Tony´s mom when she worked at Jards. She was so proud of him. My Aunt, Eleanor Ostrander used to talk highly about her Wonderful neighbors. How she adored Him along with you also Linda.
