Dale Kolenberg Obituary

Dale Zindman Kolenberg BENNINGTON Dale passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009 in Bennington, Vt. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was raised on Long Island and graduated from Oceanside High School in 1968. Dale met her former husband, Michael Kolenberg, while attending Boston University. She and Michael moved to Petersburgh, N.Y., where Dale began working as an artist. Her life was a beautiful expression of her creativity and talents. First as a potter, then as a newspaper writer/reporter and also as an entrepreneur, Dale was not afraid to try something new. Later in her life, she discovered a passion for drawing. Dale spent the most wonderful years of her life as a beloved mother of three. A doting and dedicated mother, she was very involved with every aspect of their upbringing, including their education. She frequently volunteered her time to participate in school activities. Dale's gregarious and generous personality touched the lives of many. She was well known in the community for her service and dedication to improving the lives of others. Dale will especially be remembered for her efforts as a peace activist. She leaves her three children, Ethan Kolenberg, Sara Kolenberg and Jared Kolenberg, her beloved grandson Liam Kolenberg, her sister, Elaine Zindman, brother, Alan Zindman, and her three cats Moshe, Maggie and Luna. MEMORIAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. at Congregation Beth El on 225 North Street in Bennington, Vt. Dale was a part of my childhood memories when I'd visit Ethan and family at home for sledding and movies. Twenty years later I still remember her presence on those visits. I am very sorry for your loss.

I never knew Dale, but I know Sara. What a wonderful person she must have been to have raised such a daughter. I hope that your memories bring you comfort now and always.

Dale was my sister. There will be a hole in my life from now on. I'm lucky to have Ethan, Sara, Jared and Liam in my life because of her.

I met dale when she worked at the American Chestnut Foundation. She became our webmistress for Starhill Forest Arboretum, and a good friend. Later, when she worked at Vermont Peace Works, she provided some peace magnets which we have had on both of our cars for years. A few days ago, one of them fell off the bumber and was lost. I did not know until later that she died that day. Our condolences to all of you.

I just heard about your Mother - My heart is filled with sadness at your loss. Dale was her own woman always in such spunky spirits every time I saw her. And I will never forget her homemade granola, it was the best! I will miss her and remember her especially when I sit down to have a bowl of cereal.
You all will be in my toughs & prayers during this difficult time.

Dear Ethan, Sara and Jared,

I was so sorry to learn of your mother's passing. During the years that you were in school with my children, she and I served on a number of different PTA committees. She was always eager to lend a hand with any project. The last time I ran into her was about a year or so ago at the grocery store. I remember her sharing with me about Liam. She was very proud of him and of all three of you. You will all be in my prayers.

I worked with Dale at the Hoosick Area Chamber of Commerce. She was one of the driving forces behind most of what was professional about that organization. She was bright, organized and always seeking to improve things. It is an honor to have Known and worked with her.
