David Moriarty Obituary

David L. Moriarty 1932 - 2009 BENNINGTON, VT David L. Moriarty, 77, of Wildwood, Fla., passed away Thursday, July 23, 2009, at the home of his daughter, Susan, and her husband, Jerry Griffin, of Columbia, S.C. Born on June 3, 1932, in Montpelier to Louis Daniel and Mildred A. Jaquith Moriarty. He attended North Bennington High School, graduating in 1950, and attended Vermont Agricultural School, graduating in 1951. Dave joined the Reserve Branch of Military Service 204 ORD. CO. in Bennington, Vt., in 1951. He joined the Army in 1953 and was assigned to Fort Dix for basic training. He served overseas during the end of the Korean conflict, ending up in Guam to finish his service and retiring as a staff sergeant. He was a member of the Lake Co. War Veterans Honor Guard, joining in 1996. Dave married Mary Margaret Zullo on August 7, 1954, in Bennington, Vt. After working on several area farms, Dave and his wife opened a Mobil Station in North . Bennington and called it North Village Mobil, which they ran from 1963-1968. Dave then went on to Bromley Ski area in Manchester, Vt. and became a mountain manager for a period of time. He and his wife then began a concrete placement business and named it Moriarty and Sons, Inc. which they ran for 28 years and retired in 1993. They bought a condo in Wildwood, Fla. ,in 1979 and have been living there full time since 2004. He leaves his wife, Mary M. Moriarty of Wildwood, Fla., sons, D. Michael Moriarty and his fiancee, Helene of Albany, N.Y., Tyler J. Morse of Colorado, Justin Daniel of Bennington, Thomas W. and daughter-in-law, Amy, of Bennington, Jon. P. and daughter-in-law, Karen, of Eagle Bridge, N.Y., grandchildren, Kelby Erin, Keenen Jon, Delaney Marie, all of Eagle Bridge, N.Y.; daughter, Susan, and son-in-law, Jerry Griffin, of Columbia, S.C., grandchildren, MaryKate, Carly, and Mitchell Moriarty Griffin of Columbia, S.C.; sister, Lorraine Mattison, and brother-in-law, Richard, of Shaftsbury, Vt., brother-in-law and close friend, Robert Marsh, of Bennington, Vt., and several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, granddaughter, Elizibeth Marie, and sister, Natalie Marsh. FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside services will be held at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL on Monday, August 17, at 11 a.m., with full military honors conducted by Lake Co. War Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lake Co. War Veterans Honor Guard c/o Fred DeSendi, 1661 Elkhart Circle, Tavares, FL 32778. Arrangements entrusted to Beyers Funeral Home and Crematory, Leesburg , FL.

Mary, I had heard Dave wasn't doing well but I didn't expect to hear of his passing. I have so many fond memories of him. Mostly from the Villager. He was well loved and a wonderful human being.
