Edson Kraeutler Obituary

Edson F. Kraeutler 1932 - 2011 ARLINGTON, VT Edson F. Kraeutler, 78, a resident of Effort, Pa., and formerly of Arlington, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at VNA Hospice House in East Stroudsburg, Pa., surrounded by and immersed in the warmth and support of his loving family. Ed was born in Newark, N.J., on July 31, 1932, son of Louis and Lulu Kraeutler. He spent his youth in Livingston N.J., and graduated from Livingston High School, and later from Upsala College in Caldwell, N.J. After moving to Vermont in 1969, Ed worked as an elementary school teacher in Shaftsbury and then in the Arlington School District in Arlington. After moving to Pennsylvania in 1997, he served as a substitute teacher for four years in the Pleasant Valley School District in Brodheadsville, Pa. His teaching career spanned over 30 years, and he was fondly known as "Mr. K" by his students and colleagues. In addition to teaching, Ed performed many community and professional service roles, among them being president of the Arlington Little League, heading projects to raise money for the Arlington School System, and as a leading representative to the Teachers Union. Ed loved gardening, traveling, model trains, painting, and building things. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, and especially loved taking his grandchildren just about everywhere. Ed is survived by his wife and life partner of 55 years, Mary Kraeutler, three sons and their wives: Kurt and Karin Kraeutler of Saylorsburg, Pa., Bruce and Bonnie Kraeutler of McMichaels, Pa., and Keith and Paulette Kraeutler, of Effort, Pa., along with his beloved grandchildren, Dana, Daniel, Katie, Samantha, and Emelina. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the DONALD N. GOWER FUNERAL HOME in Gilbert, PA, where friends and relatives may call on Sunday, June 5th between the hours of 1PM and 3PM. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 PM with the Rev. Harold Rosenberger officiating. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Ed's name to VNA/Hospice of Monroe County, 412 East Brown Street, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301 or to the National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018 Donald N. Dear Mary, so sad to hear of Ed's passing. Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we feel. We cherish the memories of the times we have known him. and so thankful he was a favorite teacher to all 4 of our children. He was the best. ,
