George Connors Obituary

NORTH DORSET -- George H. Connors Sr., 81, a lifelong resident of North Dorset, died peacefully at his home on Feb. 5, 2004 following an illness. He was born in North Dorset May 27, 1922 the son of Patrick H. and Gertrude (George) Connors. He attended local schools.

George proudly served his country when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II. He was in the South Pacific 1944-1946. Later he was married to Eileen (Lyon) Connors at Saint Paul’s Church in Manchester on Oct. 4, 1951. The Connors lived in North Dorset and raised a loving family of seven children. George worked as a logger for many years, then worked as house mover until his retirement. He was active in the town and worked on the Dorset planning commission for five years and as a lister for six. He also served on the board of adjustment and was chairman from 1974-1976. George was a member of the Dorset American Legion and the Manchester VFW and Eagles clubs. In his free time he built and drove stock cars. He loved the outdoors, especially camping with his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his three sons: Michael and Patrick of East Dorset and George Jr. of Manchester; his four daughters: Nancy Cota of West Rutland, Kathleen Herman of N. Redding, Mass., Carol Wilson of West Rupert and Margaret Gaiotti of Danby; his three brothers: Martin of Wallingford, Alfred of Castleton and Robert of East Dorset; his sister Ruth Apple of Fla.; also, 10 grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Paul and his sister Gertrude Walsh.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7, 11:30 a.m. at Saint Jerome’s Church in East Dorset. Committal service will follow in the South Village Cemetery. Father John Whalen, pastor of the church, will officiate. A reception will follow at the Manchester V.F.W. For those who wish memorial gifts may be made to either: The Dorset Nursing Association or the American Cancer Society C/O Brewster Funeral Service, P.O. Box 885, Manchester, VT 05255.
