Harold "Butch" Bourn 1941 - 2009 BENNINGTON, VT Harold "Butch" Patrick Bourn, 67, a resident of Main St. Bennington, died Thursday Oct. 15, 2009, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center after a long battle with lung and heart problems Born in Bennington Oct. 18, 1941, he was the son of the late Raymond P. Bourn and Ethel DeBell Bourn, who survives. Harold received his education in the Shaftsbury and Bennington Schools. In earlier years, Harold was employed at the Nancy Shoe Co. in Hoosick Falls, NY, the Bennington Graded School in Bennington and the Pownal Tannery Co. in North Pownal. He later worked for Ruskin Taxi and Red Top Taxi in Bennington. Harold also drove people to and from their doctor appointments at the Albany Medical Center and Burlington Hospital. Due to poor health, Harold had to retire early. Harold's first marriage was to Peggy Crandall of Hoosick Falls, N.Y. in December of 1961. There were two children born to this marriage, which ended in divorce in 1975. On Feb. 14, 2004, Harold married Joan Goewey at her home in North Pownal. Joan died Feb. 9, 2009. Harold was a member of the Bennington Fraternal Order of Eagles for over 30 years and a former member of the Bennington Moose Lodge for 25 years. He was also a social member of the Pownal American Legion Post 90 and the VFW in Bennington. Harold's interests, besides his family, were camping, wrestling, country fairs, western movies and fishing. He was a well known practical joker and fun to be around. He was a kind, friendly, giving person and had many friends wherever he went. He leaves his mother, Ethel Bourn of Bennington, two daughters, Debbie Tifft and her husband, Theodore, of North Pownal, and Barbara Miller and her husband, Robert, of Port Jarvis, N.Y.; two stepchildren, Nina Rochette and her husband, James, of New Brunswick, Maine, and Andre Hohman of Pownal; four grandchildren, Candy Shores of Bennington and Kristi, Kayla and Kelli Miller of Port Jarvis, N.Y.; a great-grandson, Patrick Watson of Bennington; a sister, Jean Lloyd and her husband, Alan, of Hebron, N.Y.; and a brother, Leon Bourn, and his wife, Feroza, of North Pownal. He was especially close to his uncle, Roger Bourn, and his wife, Marion, and his uncle, Millard Bourn, and his wife, Carol; a special friend, Glen Moses, and several aunts, uncles nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Joan, his father, Raymond, and a sister, Elizabeth Ann Bourn. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at 10 a.m. The burial will take place in the family lot in Hinsdiville Cemetery in North Bennington, VT. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Sunday Oct. 18, 2009, from 2 to 5 p.m. If friends desire, contributions in memory of Harold may be made to the Bennington Rescue Squad through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT. All members of the following organizations are requested to meet at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Sunday to conduct their services. Bennington Eagles 2:30 p.m., VFW 3:30 p.m.
