Jane Martin Obituary

Jane Garello Martin 1939 - 2012 BENNINGTON, VT Jane Garello Martin, 73, a resident of Jefferson Heights in Bennington, died Saturday, May 12, 2012, at her residence surrounded by her family following a long illness. She was born in North Adams, MA Feb. 24, 1939, to Paride A. Garello and Irelle Leazer. Jane attended Freeman Elementary School from K to grade 8. She was known as one of the "Freeman Girls," a group of good friends who have regularly met for fun catch-up bi-monthly lunches over the years. She loved those lunches. She graduated from Drury High School in the class of 1957. In her earlier years, Jane was a stay-at-home mother in Williamstown, MA. She moved to Pownal in the early 1960s. She volunteered as a Sunday school teacher and started girl scouting in the area. Jane loved Vermont and was proud to be a fourth generation Vermonter. She began her working career at the Robert E. Cummings Law Office, leaving in 1979 to later become a Deputy Clerk in the Bennington Superior Court. When the newly formed Family Court was established in 1990, she became the Deputy Clerk Manager. In the early years of Family Court, she served as a volunteer mediator for youth and family services. Jane was a talented artist. She won several knitting awards at the prestigious Hildene Needle Craft Show. She was a water colorist, hooked rugs and loved to read books. Jane was a lover of animals of all kinds and of trains. On many days, she would go to North Bennington to watch the Vermont RR switching cars. That activity never got old. Jane and her family were known for leaving handmade May Day baskets filled with candy, often for over 100 neighbors and friends throughout the area. She taught us all how to give. Jane leaves three children who love her dearly; Jill A. Martin, of Bennington, Jodi E. Martin Trombetta (Charles), of Marlborough, MA and Todd A. Martin of Bennington. She also leaves behind three adoring grandchildren, Lindy E. Caslin of Manchester, NH, Chelsey N. and Alexander P. Trombetta of Marlborough, MA. She also leaves her beloved French bulldog, Henri-Paul. MEMORIAL NOTICE: A memorial reception to celebrate the life of Jane G. Martin will be held at the Old First Church Barn on Monument Circle in Bennington on Monday May 21, 2012 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the Kylie Noblet Fund through the office of the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201. To Janie's Family:
Those we hold most dear never truly leave us. They live on in the kindness they showed, the comfort they shared and the love they brought into our lives.

May heart and prayers go out to you all. Lindy, she was so proud of you whenever we spoke. She is watching down on all of her grandchildren and I bet that everyone up there knows all of your accomplishments.

Love and prayers to you all.
