Luc Hawkins Obituary
DORSET Luc Hawkins, the beloved son of Paula and John Hawkins, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 22. Luc was born in New York City, a place he loved, to his adoring Australian parents. He was raised in Dorset, Vt. and for a short time Sydney, Australia. He traveled extensively and reveled in discovering these new places, making new friends and leaving his unique mark across the world. However in the end, wherever Luc travelled, he always found his way back to Dorset. Luc loved all American sports as long as it involved the Knicks, the Nets, the Yankees and the Giants. Uniquely, he would combine his love for skiing with his passion for his favorite team by wearing a Knick's jersey over his ski jacket, gently chiding his New England friends. He had the ability to punctuate ordinary events with a sudden humor that would delight his audience. He was intensely loved by his family and friends, and will be sorely missed and forever remembered. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandmother, Joyce Hawkins, and his maternal grandfather, Ivan Lorigan. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services are being arranged by BREWSTER FUNERAL HOME.Services will be held on Friday, Aug. 29, at 2 p.m. at the United Congregational Church of Dorset and East Rupert. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Luc's memory may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, c/o Brewster & Shea Funeral Home P.O. Box 885 Manchester, VT 05255. Just like so many others, I too just finished watching the documentary with Luc. What a truly loving, kind, caring, and insightful young man he was! I believe that's truly a testament to the way you raised him and it's clear he was so compassionate and showed empathy for others who didn't have as much as your family. In a time when our country is so divided it was nice to hear from the youth but I was so heartbroken to know of Luc's passing. I just thought you should know that even in 2024 your beautiful son is still touching hearts here in this realm. May he continue to rest peacefully and may you find comfort in knowing how many people he's touched with his kind heart and words that were wise beyond his years. Sending you prayers for comfort and peace.

i watched class divide for the first time and throughout watching it, i felt very connected to luc´s empathy. he seemed not only intelligent, but carefully thoughtful and a good soul. he would have been a year younger than me and it hurt my heart to hear what happened to him. i found this website to send my respects and love to him and his loved ones.

I feel almost redundant in also saying "I watched Class Divide" after reading some of the comments. But it is affirmation how Luc´s presence had an impressive effect on those who watched and listened to his insight. May his immortalization through this film and the many impactful memories he undoubtedly created in his life bring you warmth and comfort always.

I viewed the documentary "The Class Divide" on my flight from CA to the Midwest and was struck by the grace, eloquence, kindness and intelligence of Luc followed by shock and deep sadness of his passing. I am so sorry for your loss. Young adults/teens are so brave and remarkable. This is such a tough world. RIP Luc

I live nearby to Avenues School in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York, and will often pause in front of the school at the the memorial to Luc, in prayer; today will be one of those days there, and I will again do some cleaning and shining of the plaque, for Luc and for his family, for the peace of heart which is forever. I just watched “Class Divide” on HBO and was astounded by the depth, insight, compassion, and eloquence shown by Luc. He amazed me. Midway through I couldn’t wait to tell my husband to watch this documentary bc of how well-spoken and impactful Luc was alone. My heart unexpectedly hit the ground when towards the end it said he had passed away. I gasped and tears came rolling down my face much to my surprise. If I, a stranger, could feel such grief in just the short hour of watching him. I can’t even imagine what his family and friends have felt. What a beautiful and impactful soul. May he Rest In Peace and may his loved ones always feel the warmth of his presence.

Wow oh wow. Luc. What an amazingly insightful and bright young man. To say I shed some tears watching the documentary, would be the biggest understatement. I was blown away with how wise beyond his years He was. My thoughts and prayers are with the Hawkins family. I hope some comfort is found in how impressive your son was in the HBO documentary, he stood out among all the participants.
My shock and sadness when his passing was announced was audible. For someone to touch me that way that I do not know says a lot about the spirt and presence he conveyed.
I hope you and your wife take great pride and comfort that his presence will live on in many people around the world that have and will be touched by your son and his maturity, his self awareness and empathy beyond his years.

I am a Chinese student. Luke in the HBO documentary "Class Divide" impressed me a lot so that I watched more than twice. I live in a different country from Luke, speak a different language and share different culture. But there is an old saying in China, that Mencius said : people are of the same mind and share the same reason ().I think everyone who sees the documentary will be deeply moved by Luke's thoughts and his kind heart. That made me want to know more about him, so I found this website to express my grief.

I just watched the HBO documentary Class Divide And thought Luc was very inspiring and seemed self driven to help with the issues talked about in the film. As I was watching, I was hoping to see these students now excelling, but the news was very unexpected. Luc was an amazing and bright student from the film and I wish I would have had the chance to meet him.

I live in Sydney Australia and have just watched the HBO documentary "Class Divide". I was so touched by it that I watched it twice and I thought the interviews with the people on both sides of the "divide" was very moving. Luc stood out because one sensed his understanding and compassion. Wise beyond his years. When I read what happened to him I felt so sad and emotional and although it is now 5 years ago I do want to express my deepest sympathy to his family and hope that the warm & wonderful memories they have of Luc will warm their hearts. I will always remember him too.

I just watched the documentary tonight and said out loud to my husband that this kid is the best and seemed to genuinely care. I was also thinking he was going to be the one to maybe date intertacially or someone outside of his social realm. So sad to hear that he passed away. I hope he is in a better place and knows that people appreciated his insight on the show. RIP Luc. ❤

After watching Luc on the HBO documentary I felt like he was extremely well educated, well mannered, well spoken and just in tune with what is going on in this world. I literally said out loud this kid is going places. As I continued watching and saw what happened my heart broke. I literally couldnt believe it. He is a complete stranger to me and yet made such an impact on me. Rest In Peace Luc.

I watched the documentary, class divide years ago and it touched me deeply. It aired again today on HBO and I was reminded that Luc is no longer here in the physical. I am a social worker, and one of the few people in this world who recognizes that even in happiness people can feel pain. I also acknowledge and comprehend what money, class and hierarchy can mean in this world. Luc was one of the few going people who understood power and privilege at such a young age....thats an awareness that cannot be taught, be was born with it! I know Luc is doing amazing things even now! God bless the Hawkins family!

I just watched a class devine & Im so saddened by Luc Hawkins passing. He showed such sensitivity to others not like him so much so he wondered if they thought he felt more superior than them!? Which he certainly did not. He was such a kind, steady & smart young man. He touched me more than any others in the documentary. Rest easy Luc. You know you're soul lives forever. So, you are still with you're family, friends & that will never change. My condolences to the Hawkins.

I Honestly wished there were more people like him in today's world. His outlook throughout the documentary on the fact that privilege doesn't make one higher than another was so inspiring. I used to think that no one else would ever see it that way, and then here he comes. I'm very sorry for your loss. I know those words could never bring him back, but I hope that as his family you all have found peace and comfort in knowing that he has reached and touched the lives of many.

I just watched the documentary. I could see the sadness in Luc's eyes as he talked about the disparity.
My hope for you is that you find some sort of peace. You raised a wonderfully compassionate person, I am just so sad this world took him from you. I recognized the sadness in his eyes when he talked of gentrification, you could see he felt he had to figure it out he even voiced how he didn't want to be seen as thinking himself better than others. He never put that across. I'm so sad the world lost him.
I'm from the "other side of the tracks" but as one of the kids said, "there are good people and bad people who are rich, and there are good people and bad people who are poor".
The loss of Luc is a loss for the world. We need more people like him.

I have just seen the documentary and as soon as I saw him I said to myself "He is going to be a wonderful man, sensitive, inteligent and concern about others...". Then the horrible moment...
What a heartbreaking moment. He was so young, so nice, probably too sentient for our world. You could see it in his eyes.

My deepest, heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends, and loved ones of Luc Hawkins. I did not know Luc personally, I "met" him through watching the documentary "Class Divide" this afternoon. It was immediately apparent what a sensitive, caring, heart this young man had, and I was saddened beyond words when I learned of his passing. I would like to thank his parents from the bottom of my heart for allowing us to get to know their son through this documentary. Please know that in doing so, you have allowed him to make a difference in this world, both to people who can learn from his care and concern for the world, and more importantly to the fellow young people who may be struggling with their own issues. Seeing Luc, and the impact he has had on this world may well let them know that there is more to the situation than what they may be realizing, and it may well just be enough to coax them to ask for help. What better legacy could there be for young people than that? Luc, through you, has given them the possibility of help and a future. Those are priceless gifts.

This morning I saw the documentary Class Divide. I could see that Luc Hawkins was a special. As he spoke, one could see his genuineness, truthfulness, gentleness and his ability to see others and care about others feelings.
I felt saddened as they talked of him passing.
To his parents I say,
I am sorry for whatever it was that he struggled with.
I am sorry for your pain.
I thank you for giving him life and letting us see his beautiful heart.
