Richard Mattison Obituary

Richard A. Mattison, age 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Washington Elms in Bennington, Vermont. Born in Concord, MA, he was a 1975 graduate of CCHS. Known as Rik, he was the son of the late William E. and Elizabeth A. (Betty) Mattison. Rik grew up on his family farm in Concord, MA, where he fostered a love of and expertise in the operation of all manner of trucks and heavy machinery.

A dedicated worker and a loyal employee, he was happiest when busy with work. Rik will be remembered as someone with a great sense of humor, a powerful stubborn streak, a commitment to work, and a loyal friend. He loved country and western music, John Wayne films, and was a lifetime member of several hunting and fishing societies. He was a son, a brother, and a father, and he will be missed. Rik made his home in Bennington and Shaftsbury, Vermont.

He leaves behind his two children, Kaitlin E. Mattison of Watertown, MA., Dr. Bradford R. Mattison and his wife Abigail of Newton, MA, his brother, Roger H. Mattison and wife Karleen of Naples, FL, sisters, Mary D. (Polly) Mattison and Martha M. Curran, both of Concord, MA. He was predeceased by his brothers, William E. (Jack) Mattison, Jr., and E. Bradford Mattison. Rik is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In more recent years, he appreciated the companionship of his housemates and extraordinary caregivers at Washington Elms Retirement Home.

Too many fond memories of Rick at the "Mattison Camp" -- which we visited often with the girls as we lived "just down the road". He was always generous in letting them splash and fish in the pond. Just a welcoming person with a kind heart. His presence has been missed. Rest in peace.

Oh Ricky the corn steeler, I, in a funny way called him. Rick was good friends with my sis Kathy Tracy and we took a ride to Vt. And visited his friends house, who was having a cookout. Empty handed, Richard went to his truck and So graciously took my doz. Corn and gave them to cook up, no asking me, to funny from then on I always called him Richard the corn stealer. We luved your spirit Ricky, make em laugh upstairs, luv Tiz Tracy

Rik was a big part of the Concord MA community. He knew so many people . He played hockey and softball with many of his friends. His classmates of CCHS will miss him as he was a good guy.
