Robert Downing Obituary
Robert was born on May 16, 1954, in Bennington, VT, son of the late Francis H. and Nina (Gates) Downing. He graduated from Hoosick Falls Central School, where he was a star cross-country runner. Robert held multiple positions with Price Chopper for forty-six years. He was also a fifty + year member at the First Baptist Church in Hoosick Falls, NY, where he served on the Board of Trustees, Deacons, and Pastoral Relations. Robert was also very involved with the Hoosick Falls Community serving on the Village Board, a Cub Scout Cubmaster for Pack #64, and an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop # 65 for many years.
Survivors other than his wife Cheryl include their children Joshua Downing of Dallas, TX, Nicholas Downing of Bennington, VT, Autumn Tucker of Granville, NY and Amie Thompson of Alabama, his brother Frank (Diane) Downing of Hoosick Falls, NY, also eight grandchildren, three nephews, and a great-grandchild. Robert was predeceased by two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 28th, at 10:00 am, from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY. Burial will follow the service at Maple Grove Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.
Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, on Monday, February 27th, from 4:00 - 7:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bennington Cancer Crusaders through the funeral home.

Oh my goodness, I am so saddened to hear about Bobby´s passing.
We grew up together. He lived across the tracks from me.
Bobby was from a lovely family and was a mannerly young man when we were growing up.
I remember his Mom, Nina was a sweetheart & his brother Franny was like a big brother to me, as he used to work with my Dad at Saul´s Garage.
The last conversation I had with Bobby was about his Son, making Eagle Scout, and how proud he was, smiling from ear to ear.
Although, I never saw him, not smiling, and he was always happy and pleasant.
My sincere condolences go out to his Wife, Children and Family.
He sure was a nice and honorable man, one of the best!

I graduated with Bob from Hoosick Falls and frequently saw him over the years at Price Chopper. We had great conversations and it was so nice to stay connected. What a great human being and I was so sad to hear of his passing. My sincere condolences to his family and may he test in peace until we have a class reunion on the other side of the mountain.

Seeing Bon was the one reason i lived going to work with my parents or grocery shopping, he always gave me cookies no matter what age. Even as an adult i would stop to talk to him and he would always have cookies ready, once i had children of my own he continued this tradition. Bob is the kindest most caring person i´ve ever met in my life, his smile has always been the brightest and i´m so thankful for the memories he helped create not only in my childhood but my daughters as well. Bob will truly be missed by many but most certainly never forgotten

I am extremely saddened to hear of this wonderful man's passing. I had the pleasure of working with him at Price Chopper. We just spoke about two weeks ago, and had a lovely conversation. I´ve known "Robert " most of my life. Neighbors across the tracks to bring one of the caregivers for my grandchildren. Honest , kind , and caring guy ! Sorry for your loss!
