Shirley Gumm Obituary
She was born on January 13, 1941, in Humansville, Missouri, the daughter of Floyd and Martha (Welch) Capps. Shirley was raised in Weaubleau, where she graduated from Weaubleau High School in 1958. On June 26, 1960, she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Donald Gumm. Following Don's service in the United States Navy, the couple made their home in Weaubleau.
Shirley earned her bachelor's degree in education from Southwest Baptist College and her master's degree from Southwest Missouri State University. She dedicated her career to teaching, beginning in the Weaubleau School District for six years, and continuing in the Warsaw School District for 25 years until her retirement in 2000.
A devoted educator and active member of her community, Shirley was involved in the teacher's association, the First Baptist Church, and the Shawnee Bend Ladies Golf League. She was also an avid sports fan, cheering on the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs with enthusiasm.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Raymond Lee Capps.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Don Gumm of the home; two children: Ginger Buchanan and her husband Chris of Sedalia, Missouri, and Eric Gumm and his wife Rita of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; two grandchildren: Alyson Iuchs and her husband Jeremy of Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico, and Austin Anderson and his wife Brianna of Grain Valley, Missouri; one great-grandson, Henry Iuchs; and two sisters: Sharon Barger of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, and Linda Parke of Weaubleau, Missouri.
Funeral services for Shirley F. Gumm will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw. Visitation will be held one hour prior, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Robinson Cemetery near Weaubleau.
