Alan Tollett Obituary

Alan Tollett, 71, of Benton, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016. Alan was born on February 27, 1945, in Nashville, the son of Leroy and Winnie Reese Tollett. He was a long-time and faithful member of Northside Church of Christ and a retired principal of Benton Junior High, accumulating 31 years as an educator.
He graduated from Nashville High School in 1963 where he excelled as a four-sport letterman. During his senior year, he set the 120 yard high hurdles record at the Division A state track meet and was selected as West Team co-captain at the Arkansas High School All Star football game. He attended Henderson State University on a football and track scholarship. He met and married his wife, Lana, while a student at Henderson.
He graduated in 1967 with a BSE degree and began his coaching career at Stuttgart, where he coached track and football. His track teams won five consecutive regional championships, and he was a member of the coaching staff when Stuttgart won the state championship in football against a great Arkadelphia team in 1970. He and his family moved to Benton in 1972 when he became a coach for Benton High School. He then moved to Benton Junior High as principal when Eastside and Westside Jr. Highs were combined. He served there until his retirement.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, and family camping and beach trips. He also enjoyed following his grandchildren as they participated in school activities and sporting events. After his retirement, he and Lana enjoyed traveling with family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Scott Tollett (Kim); daughter, Tami Croushore; grandchildren, Kinzi, Cade, and Carson Tollett and Jake and Kaylee Croushore; siblings, Don, Ralph, and Jay Tollett (Terre) and Judy Stewart (Jerry); and sister-in-law Judi Jones (Terry).

Alan was one of best Nashville players ever. I played against him in high school and with him at HSU. When I tackled him, he would give me that sheepish grin and say, "Hee hee That didn't hurt! We were sorry to hear of his death. Tony & Lynda Beltrani

We are so sorry to learn of the death of Alan. My husband, Randy, played for Delight when Alan was a senior at Nashville and they were competitors. We were at Henderson when Alan was a student there, as well. This is a very sad news. May God bless all of you.
