Adele Howard

Adele Le Bourgeois Alsop Howard Adele Le Bourgeois Alsop Howard of Bushby House, Greystoke, Cumbria, England, formerly of Tyringham, widow of Lt. Col. the Hon. Henry A. C. Howard, died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 96 on February 15, 2011. A funeral service was held at Greystoke Church on Friday, February 25th, 2011.She lived for years in remotest Kenya and the British Virgin Islands, and she wrote vivid stories about her experiences. In Cumbria she was a noted breeder of Fell Ponies and a competitive carriage driver. She is survived by her sister Anne Alsop Palmer and her brother Robert Chapin Alsop, both of Tyringham and by four daughters all living in England, Mary Howard Lowe, Joan Dacre Howard, Sophia Howard Palmer, and Charlotte Howard. Another daughter, Susan Isabella Howard, and her older brother, Dr. Reese Fell Alsop, predeceased her. She is survived by four grandsons, three granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren and thirteen nieces and nephews including Christina Alsop, Reese Palmer, and George Gilder of Tyringham, Comfort Gordinier of Lenox and Denny Alsop of Stockbridge.
