Alice ALTON Obituary

ALTON, Alice (Penne)
Born 5/25/1921 in New York. Passed away 11/11/2013 at Mercy San Juan Hospital in Carmichael at the age of 92. Her outgoing personality and her silver blond hair (since birth) always attracted attention wherever she went. Penne joined the Navy in 1943. As a WAVE, she served 14 months and was honorably discharged in 1944. Her passion for painting was intense, an ardent Impressionist, she specialized in floral & beautiful country scenes. Her closest friend in the artist family was Rita Beaulieu of San Francisco, whom she spoke of frequently. Before retiring, she worked as social secretary to Lee Radziwill (Jackie Kennedy's sister) and 17 years as Executive Secretary for the Newton Cope family at the Huntington Hotel in San Francisco. She will be missed by her longtime friend, Don Steger, the staff at The American River Care Center, and her many friends at Ernie's Interlude Lounge. Per her request, there will be no funeral services.

I was very sorry to learn of Penne's passing but that happens when one lives so far away. I knew her at the Interlude and I also purchased some of her paintings. I'm a fellow artist and have always admired her wonderful and bold use of color. The last time I saw her was in the assisted living facility and she seemed in such good spitits about having won the first place prize for one of her paintings. Very sad to see her gone.
