Alphonse Kasuba Obituary

Alphonse B. Kasuba 1919 - 2008 PITTSFIELD Alphonse B. Kasuba, 89, of 379 North St. died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Dudley on May 2, 1919, son of Stanley A. and Antonina M. Mahuj, he attended Pittsfield schools and was a 1937 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He enrolled at Boston College in 1944 and received a bachelor of arts degree in 1948. He also attended Boston Law School. He served in the Massachusetts National Guard for three years and entered the Air Force during World War II. Mr. Kasuba was last employed as a teacher in the Pittsfield School System, first teaching math and English at Pittsfield High School. He later received his permanent appointment from Superintendent Edward J. Russell, teaching English at the former North Junior High School, now Reid Middle School. He retired in 1980. He first worked in the mail department at General Electric for two years, and later for the Naval Gun Director Project at GE for four years. While in Boston, he worked as an assistant to the credit manager at Jordan Marsh Co. He then returned to Pittsfield to assume the position of Director of the Civil and Defense Mobilization Agency for Berkshire County. He was a licensed radio-telephone operator for the agency. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church. He was appointed a member of the Berkshire County Deputy Sheriff's Department by the late Sheriff J. Bruce McIntyre. He leaves two brothers, Donald T. Kasuba of Pittsfield and Dr. Frances E. Kasuba of Milton; a sister, Jean Paddock of Gaithersburg, Md., and 18 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers, Edmund A., Joseph H., Stanley E., Edwin A., and Richard P. Kasuba, and by four sisters, Clara Lang, Theresa O'Brien, Helen Kasuba and Virginia LeBlanc. FUNERAL NOTICE: Mr. Alphonse B. Kasuba, longtime Pittsfield educator, died Saturday, July 12, 2008. Funeral services will be Friday, July 28, at 8:15 a.m. from DWYER FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Joseph's Church, celebrated by the Rev. Msgr. Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.Calling hours will be Thursday, July 17, from 4 to 6 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph's Church or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the Dwyer Funeral Home.
