Barbara Fay Simmons

1928 - 2025

Barbara Fay Walton Simmons, 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Washington MA, on Friday, March 14, 2025.

Born in Pittsfield, MA to Harry and Sarah Mae Adams Walton, she grew up at the family home on Depot St., Dalton and was the Matriarch of the LP ADAMS and WALTON families.

In 1946, Barbara graduated from the former Dalton High School.

Barbara worked at The Dalton Irving House and The Hinsdale Drug Store where she met her future husband Ralph Simmons after World War II.

Barbara volunteered at many positions for the towns of Dalton and Washington and the Dalton United Methodist Church, where she was a lifetime member. She loved having family and friends at their cottage at Plunkett Lake in Hinsdale, MA. Barbara was very thoughtful about sending cards and calling family and friends to keep in touch.

Barbara married Ralph T. Simmons on May 22, 1948. Ralph passed away on November 2, 2016, after 68 years of marriage.

She was also predeceased by her brother, Harry A. Walton and her sisters, Daisy W. Smith and Ruth W. Gaudette.

Barbara is survived by her children, Barbara Simmons Mills, Claudia Shuttleworth (Larry) and Melissa Simmons Campbell (Donald). She leaves her grandchildren, Justin Mills, Lacey Mills, Brenda Wieczynski (Buck) and Cindy Shuttleworth, as well as her great-grandchildren, Landon Wieczynski, Zarina Mills, Rayon Shuttleworth, Raylein Shuttleworth and Shaelynn Robinson. Barbara is also survived by many awesome nieces and nephews.

Funeral Notice:

Funeral services for Barbara will be Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 2pm at The Dalton Methodist Church, 755 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226. Burial will take place this spring at the Stone House Cemetery in Washington, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104, or The Salvation Army, 298 West St., Pittsfield, MA 02101.
