GREAT BARRINGTON -- Betsy Cowles, 83, of Falmouth died Thursday at LaSalle House in Newton. She was the mother of Jack D. Cowles of Housatonic.
Born in Boston on Nov. 13, 1923, daughter of John L. and Marguerite Connor Foley, she grew up in West Roxbury and was a graduate of Roslindale High School and of Simmons College.
Mrs. Cowles was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Seton Church in North Falmouth, and was a member of the Woods Hole Golf and Falmouth Garden clubs. She enjoyed interior design.
Her husband, David T. Cowles, whom she married in 1945, died in 1992.
Besides her son, she leaves another son, David T. Cowles Jr. of Needham; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A funeral Mass for Betsy Cowles will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 481 Quaker Road, North Falmouth. Burial will follow in the VA National Cemetery of Massachusetts in Bourne. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at CHAPMAN, COLE & GLEASON FUNERAL HOME, 584 West Falmouth Hwy. (Route 28A), West Falmouth. Memorial donations may be made to Roxbury Latin School, 101 St. Theresa Ave., W. Roxbury, MA 02132, in care of J. Leo Foley Scholarship Fund.
