Cheryl Broughel Obituary

Cheryl (Peterson) Ames Broughel (77) of Pittstown, NY, passed away on October 20, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Cheryl was born in Pittsfield, MA, on July 28, 1947, the daughter of the late Ernest and Alma (Woodin) Peterson. Cheryl was educated in public schools, graduated from Berkshire Business College in 1970, and worked for General Electric. She moved to Northern Virginia in May 1977, where she worked for federal, state, and local governments and retired from the MITRE Corp in McLean, VA, in 2012.

While living in McLean for 35 years, Cheryl was a ten-pin bowler, running three bowling leagues. She was a member of the 600 Club, bowling numerous tournaments throughout the area, including the Lebanon Dutchman, Lancaster, PA. Cheryl was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins, whether they won or lost. After retirement, in 2012, she moved back to Pittsfield to be with her family, volunteering for the Pittsfield High School Class of 1965 Reunion Committee, where they celebrated their 50th Class Reunion in 2015.

Cheryl is survived by her husband, Dennis Broughel; daughter, Tammy White, of Pittsfield; son, Thomas Ames of Fairfax, VA; grandson, Brandon Lusignan; granddaughter, Heather Lusignan; and great-grandson, Landon Zeleny; stepchildren, Dr. Darcy Broughel-Baer (Ben) and Alanna (Broughel) Toomajian; step-grandchildren, Eli & Adelaide Baer, and Ella & Gabriel Toomajian. Cheryl is predeceased by her parents, twin brother Darryl, sister Shirlee (Peterson) Mercadante, and brother-in-law Domnick Mercadante.

Burial will be at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Great Barrington, MA, at a later date.
