Christopher Pigott Obituary

Christopher Pigott, of Glendale, died peacefully Monday, February 20 surrounded by his family.

Chris was born in Tullamore, Ireland, June 11, 1927 and came to the United States at the age of three. He lived in Pittsfield with his parents, William Pigott and Margaret Grogan Pigott and his 8 siblings, graduating from Pittsfield High School.

Chris served in the Army as Private First Class of the 66th Constabulary during World War II, from August 25, 1943 until he was Honorably Discharged on February 24, 1947. He has passed the torch as Stockbridge's oldest veteran.

His beloved Helen Koloski came into his life while he was bartending at the Polish Community Club, and they were married on November 25, 1961. They settled in Helen's family home in Glendale and raised one daughter together, Christine Pigott (Martin), for whom they would give the world.

Working as an electrician and member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Chris had a long career, even taking the annual MA electrical code exam until he turned 90.

Chris got involved in so many community issues and events. He dabbled in politics serving as a Pittsfield City Councilman, then worked on a few gubernatorial campaigns here in Massachusetts. He loved big community events and had the fondest memories of having organized the 1976 Norman Rockwell Day Parade in Stockbridge, other parades through the years and had so much fun playing Saint Patrick for 20 years in the City of Albany's St Patrick's Day Parade.

Chris was a character and friend to so many people in his day to day beat. He spoke to anyone and everyone, loved surprising kids with some ice cream money, and took our neighborhood kids on many hilarious adventures. He loved the Red Sox and Patriots and attended many a game throughout his life. He and Helen traveled in their retirement, visiting Ireland on many occasions, including to his first childhood home, where he, of course, gave the family living there some money for the kids.

Many local pubs welcomed Chris and gave him an extended family, including The Olde Heritage Tavern, Michael's, Bucky's and the 102, as well as OTB, as Chris was known to enjoy a game of chance.

Chris leaves behind his daughter, Christine Martin, son-in-law, Del, and his grandchildren Claudia and Jake Martin. In addition, Chris leaves behind his siblings, Jim Pigott, Al Pigott, Margaret Pravia and Rose Beaudin, and so many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews. He will always be their Uncle Chris.

He was predeceased by his wife Helen, in 2015, both of his parents, his brothers Joseph Pigott, William Pigott, Patrick Pigott and his sister Ann Wilkinson.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial and Celebration of Chris' Life will be held on Friday, March 3 at 10:00am at St Joseph's Church in Stockbridge followed by internment at St Joseph's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours, per the family's request.

Dear Chris, I miss your baritone voice in church! You now are with Helen and behind you is my husband Luciano. So, each Sunday, when I go to say hi to Luciano and Helen, now I will talk to you as well.
You have been a wonderful person and we, members of St. Joseph Church and citizens of Stockbridge, will miss you. Rest in peace.

I first met Chris through Del and Christine while living in Monterey and have many fond memories of dining and dancing. Later when I began working at ITC, he became 'Uncle Chris' - as he was to everyone that worked there. Such a big personality and strong spirit. Thinking of you all - Christine and family, Bill, and all who have lost such an incredible man. With Regards, Ginni Ranzoni

Rosie and I are sad to hear of the passing of Chris. The day that we bought the house in Glendale at auction, Chris was the first to come through the door and say " What's wrong with this house ?" He helped make our house a home. Helen and Chris were wonderful neighbors and much appreciated presence on Glendale Middle Rd. Rosie and Don. Schneyer

Chris was a wonderful friend of O´BRIEN´S MARKET for so many years. We proudly had a picture displayed of his cousin and himself taken @ O´Brien´s Bridge in Ireland that he had brought to us to show us where we hail from. He always promised to take us all to the Bridge as soon as we cooperated and sold him the winning lottery ticket. He always brought us that big smile and kind words and occasional gifts. Our hearts and warm thoughts are with all who loved him.
