Clara Sala Obituary
1961 - 2015 Clara (Nura) Rose Sala died last Friday in Brooklyn NY. She was born in Astoria NY 1961, to the late Gabrielle and Zoltan Sala, moving to Becket when she was 7. She graduated 1979 from Wahconah Regional HS, a member of the National Honor Society. Back down in NYC she waitressed, studied Mime, Acting and Dance and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Queens College, New York City, with a degree in creative writing. She taught in the NYC public schools, but also taught poetry to teens and war veterans at libraries, schools and homeless centers in New York City. Clara delivered spoken word performances all over the Northeast and published several small volumes of poetry, the last in 2012, called "Beloved". An activist, she worked tirelessly to raise awareness of issues concerning race, inequality, women's rights, HIV, world peace and the environment. A practicing Sufi, she drew strength from many religious traditions. She traveled widely, making friends wherever she went. She is survived by her sisters, Barbara Roth, Ilona Hadhazy, Melva Norton, Rima Sala, her brothers, Andras, Attila and Nandor Sala, and eight nieces and nephews. SERVICES: On Saturday, Nov. 28, an 11a.m. funeral mass will be held at St. Patrick's church in Hinsdale, which will be followed by a 1 to 4p.m. memorial tribute in Guild Hall, annex of Becket Center Church on YMCA Road in Becket. Clara and I became quite good friends when we worked together in a kosher vegetarian restaurant in Manhattan. We both were English majors in Queens and shared our love of writing and music ; we were close for several years untill we lost touch , I was just looking for her hoping to reconnect. I am heartbroken to know she is gone. She was a light in the darkness! What happened? She was so young!!

Andras and family, there are not enough words or time of reflection to significantly tell of the loving memories of youthful days gone by. Your sister is warmly remembered and learning of all the wonderful gifts of giving she blessed the world with will be always in our hearts. Be comforted in your time of loss. Clara will be dearly missed in this world.
