David Vincent Chiorgno

1934-2012 David Vincent Chiorgno, 77, of Dalton Division Road, Pittsfield, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2012, at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston surrounded by his family.

Born in Pittsfield on October 22, 1934, son of Vincent and Mildred Fessenden Chiorgno, he graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1952 where he played the French horn in the band and orchestra, and played goalie for the hockey team. He attended the University of Miami on a music scholarship where he played French horn in the symphony orchestra.

Mr. Chiorgno worked as an apprentice at Moldmaster Engineering while in high school. There he met Dorothy "Honey" Kushi whom he married on May 21, 1955. In 1968, they established Pittsfield Plastics Engineering with business partner Richard Sible. They sold the business in 1997, but stayed active as a consultant for the company, retiring in June 2012.

Mr. Chiorgno had a passion for music, playing the French horn with the Albany Symphony, the Berkshire Symphony, and the Eagles Band, of which he was currently a member. He played with the Eagles Band during various times in his life alongside his grandfather, father, sister and son Larry. He enjoyed wine-making, woodworking, gardening, traveling, and spending time with his family. He re-built an airplane in 1967 and took off from Allessio's farm in Pittsfield. He also built and re-built clocks, most recently a Grandfather clock for his grandson.

Mr. Chiorgno was predeceased by his wife "Honey" who died January 12, 2009, and his son, Larry who died August 10, 1977.

Mr. Chiorgno is survived by a daughter, Donna Virgilio and her husband, James, of Dalton; two sisters, Carol Sears and her husband, Fred, of Dalton, and Kathy Thorn and her husband, Donald, of Queensbury, N.Y.; a brother Ronald Chiorgno and his wife, Marie, of Florida; and two grandchildren, Jessie Crombie and her husband, Matthew, and Dustin Virgilio and his wife, Raina. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
